SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang is leaving the struggling company.
The surprise departure, announced Tuesday, comes just two weeks after Yahoo Inc. hired former PayPal executive Scott Thomson as its CEO.
Yang expressed his support of Thompson in his resignation from Yahoo's board of directors. He had been on Yahoo's board since the company's 1995 inception.
Yang is also stepping down from the boards of China's Alibaba Group and Yahoo Japan. Yahoo is negotiating to sell its stakes in both companies.
Yang is also giving up his title as "chief Yahoo."
Although a popular figure among Yahoo employees, Yang had alienated the company's shareholders by turning down a $47.5 billion takeover offer from Microsoft Corp. in 2008.

CBS Sports to open fantasy platform to developers

      <cite class="byline vcard">By OSKAR GARCIA | Associated Press – <abbr class="updated" title="2012-01-17T10:58:54Z">11 hrs ago</abbr></cite>

LAS VEGAS (AP) — CBS Sports is opening its fantasy sports platform to third-party developers, allowing them to sell league-specific apps that will likely make this year's games a lot more competitive for millions of players.
Developers hope the apps make fantasy sports even more lucrative for an industry that makes $800 million annually.
The deal is expected to be announced Tuesday in Las Vegas. It will allow developers to create and sell fantasy-related apps to users of CBSSports.com, one of the world's three largest fantasy sports websites.
The move is a play by CBS Sports to attract users of other top fantasy sites, including those run by Yahoo and ESPN.
CBS Interactive President Jim Lanzone says the open platform will give fantasy sports companies a significant lifeline.
