Almost impossible to single cover Gronkowski. Think of it like an entry pass in basketball. If keep him in front, you are giving up the catch and if you jump the route, you're eventually going to get beat over the top. DB has to play perfect 3/4 coverage, and even then you leave a window to fit the pass in.
Give it a few years. We're going to start seeing 6'4" DB's to cover the new wave of monster sized receivers and TE's. I don't get the hype over the honey badger at all. He's going to get squashed like a bug in the NFL.Comment -

First of all, I can single cover Gronk...Couldn't tackle the guy, but am pretty confident I could blanket him. I would be a liability in the run game tho, so coach might have to sit me.
We will see some 6'4 Db's, not a ton of them. The specific skill set required to play Corner does not come in the the above 6 foot model very often.

It takes ridiculous hips to play corner, especially since you can't lay a finger on the receivers (unless you are the Texans)
Ever wonder why it looks like these corners are terrible at playing the ball, especially in college. Truth is a lot of these guys are terrible athletes in a lot of other respects. Can't catch, hardly any ball awareness. Again, the low center of gravity and hip thing is real rare. Add the ability to come up and play the run on top of that - even more rare.Comment -
Moss was ahead of his time and one of a kind at the time. No one wanted to change their D for 1 guy, so he caught about a whillion TD's despite not really even being into football. Couple aspects of the game have changed over the past few years.
1) Recievers/TE's are bigger and stronger, on average. Not just 1-2 guys anymore. Now it's Gates, Graham, Gronkowski, Hernandez, Davis, Megatron, Dez Bryant, Andre Johnson, Rice, Marshal, Nicks, Jackson, and so on. Blackmon looks like a beast, too. This trend is going to continue.
2) Passing games have evolved. Top QB's have been increasingly successful throwing into ridiculous amounts of coverage because of the physical mismatches. How many times did Stafford toss it up for grabs in megatron's direction? This is becoming the norm, not the exception. You can have 2 or 3 super speedy defenders running stride for stride, but unable to make a play on the ball or disrupt the passing lane.Comment -
