This is crazy there are posters popping up out of everywhere, went from small tight nit community of jokers, clowns and cappers to a sprawling mass of football season gamblers, I think its funny really I prefer the down season I guess, will stick around but its definitley harder to keep up and get to know guys when traffic explodes like this

#2You wanna talk about change? As someone who registered and began posting on this board when it launched in August 2005, I can't believe how much things have changed in three years.
The improvements made to the forum features and live lines have been amazing. The lines service is especially impressive. Never thought three years ago that the service would evolve to where it is now. Major kudos are in order to the SBR Crew for exceeding even my wildest expectations.
Unfortunately, it does seem like the website improvements have been offset by the absence of many sharp members from years past. There's very few people around now who participated in the inaugural Beat The Prick Contest. That season, it was more like Everyone Beats The Prick Contest, but that's another story for another day. Career changes and responsibilities have caused my several lengthy sabbaticals from the forum and I'm sure that may be the case with others as well. This place used to have some of the sharpest minds around. Now, the forum seems more like a YouTube or Facebook than the incredible handicapping resource it used to be. Hopefully, some of the people who made this forum so promising in the early days return like I have.Comment -

Yeah me too. Football is the least important sport to me and I am an old fuddy duddy who doesn't get into a lot of hyped up rookies running around in every direction at once.
As one who goes back to day 1, I can certainly appreciate what Senator7 is saying too, the pro and the con.
It is one of those odd/funny life experiences to see someone who signed up in March 2008 waxing poetic about his good old days of the forum and lamenting how things have changed.
Anyway, I just hope The Prick's perfomance this season will be on par with that first BTP.

#7I'm with Happy boy, now that is football season, almost all of my posts are going to be serious and about either football or the stock market. I may still contribute to the mindless bantor from time to time, but it will occur with less frquency than before.Comment -

#8Lots of great cappers here. Young and old, bold and beautiful. Best advice is to cap your own games and use the info provided here to your own advantage. Some of the posts I read here frequently swing my plays for my own benefit.Comment -

#9I seem to get busy in the summers. Golf, backpacking, playing with my kid, even working. I sometimes try to cap some baseball, and then I remember that I'm not very good at it. I like football, and with games pretty much just on weekends, it's relatively easy to stay on top of it. Then, college basketball is usually my best game. So, for me, it's mostly about the winters when it comes to wagering.Comment -

#10There is definitely a line to walk when managing a forum. Good posters and new potentially good posters will sometimes pass by a forum if it is not active with a lot to choose from. Good posters will also be discouraged by fluff threads that steer a board in a way it was not originally intended. Someone always gets upset when the answer is editing/moving content.
Some of the things we have done is added sub forums where all related threads are mirrored while letting Players Talk be a catch-all. An NCAA capper never has to read the lobby if he doesn't want to.
We just added the first SBR chatroom which is intended to help with in-game thread traffic.
We will create the ability to make handicapper networks where posters choose who can participate.
The goal is not to keep introducing new blood but never let the board get into an out of control mishmash. If a poster can't find something or is missing something due to design, we want to hear about it. Simply getting a lot of traffic is not the goal.
