i'd suggest going to some of the islands (not sure exactly how much time you have though) like lamma island (known for fresh seafood), lantau island which has a giant buddha statue and a gondola, the peak which overlooks the entire city, you can also catch a horse race at one of the tracks ( i think one of them has horseracings largest scoreboard), and then there's also womens street (in Mongkok) which has a lot of cheap clothes( all fake of course)if you do go to womens street make sure you barter once you start walking away theyll give in! lan kwai fong is the name of the party district where most foreigners go so theres alot of bars and pubs here. causeway bay is another popular spot with alot of shopping and restaurants
Happy Valley (races) and then on to Wan Chai (semi-red light district) is a must.
Mid-Levels/Escalators area has some great bars/restaurants and is the main area for expats/western visitors
The Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay has a bar downstairs (Dickens Bar) which is a great place to watch sports (mostly soccer though).
Tsim-Tsa-Tsui and Mongkok are great areas for shopping, everything from designer stores to street markets.
A harbour cruise is a bit "touristy" but is OK and offers great views.
Lantau Island is good for beaches and that sort of stuff.
Never been there, but wanted to ask if you will have the chance to go to the casinos in Macau?
(Macau is 37 miles from Hong Kong) Would be great if you were able to go and tell us about it when you came back.

They sure are JJ, being that the exchange rate is 7 Hong Kong dollars to 1 US dollar. There is plenty left over for shopping and food, the next best attractions. I don't recall the exact locations, but they aren't tough to find. Enjoy Vyomguy, you should have a memorable visit.

i was there a few years ago, they had a flea market, but it was very touristy (i think it was mongkok, as noted above).
nothing too special, full of non-locals.
if you want real cheap stuff, there was an "electronics market", but i dont remember where. although it was accessible by subway. i bought knock-off New Balance shoes for $8/pair, and thats without any bargaining. it looks pretty crappy, but the prices were way better. good place for random stuff, not just electronics.
also, might as well check out the "light show" from across the water. i think its 8pm every night.

My last customer flew in around midnight last night from work and was flying in from Shanghai.
He showed me this mask that he has to wear because the air is so bad at times.
I know Shanghai isn't Hong Kong, but he says it's worse in other parts of the country.
Not exactly sold on the idea of making the 12 hour plane ride to wear a mask.

I go to Hong Kong regularly on business.
If you are into shopping...you are sort of out of luck because the prices of goods and services are about the same as the US now. Unless you want really cheap things that will break easily. DON'T get a custom made suit there. DON'T get new pair of glasses. DON'T buy any electronics.
There's some good clubs for nightlife, gentlemens' clubs, and such. Best part of Hong Kong is the restaurants (and hotels). You can get Chinese, French, American barbeque - whatever your heart desires and it's very good. Don't go cheap on the food - or then you will have a bad experience. Only go to restaurants associated with the nice hotels.
The Islands are great to visit if you have the time. If not, see Victoria Peak, Stanley harbor, ride the Star Ferry, etc.

i havent been in a while, so you'd know better, but for me, inexpensive electronics were a great choice. i bought a $2 wall ipod charger and a $5 bluetooth headset, both of which still work more than 4 years later.
ive never tried, but ive heard the street guys selling custom suits are a disaster, avoid at all costs.
