Warren Buffett is trying to prove a point, and his point is completely wrong. He claims to pay a lower effective tax rate than his secretary. He knows that that is untrue, and it's pathetic that he keeps trying to make this claim and that people are buying it. He has a lower rate due to long term capital gains on his investments. However those investments have already paid a 35% corporate tax rate (before tax loopholes). His real effective tax rate is his personal taxes PLUS his share of the corporate taxes.

He conveniently leaves that crucial part out of his equation. His effective tax rate is probably closer to 50%.
