It really looked like it when they had full control of congress. How many bills did they pass in 2007-Jan 2009 to legalize gambling that Bush vetoed? Oh, how about when they had full control of congress and Obama in the White House? How many bills did they pass through a House and Senate with a dominant majority for Obama to sign? Surely they must have tried to pass some legislation during the lame duck session in November/December 2010 when dozens of liberals had nothing to gain or lose. Let me tally that up for you. Warren Buffett is trying to prove a point, and his point is completely wrong. He claims to pay a lower effective tax rate than his secretary. He knows that that is untrue, and it's pathetic that he keeps trying to make this claim and that people are buying it. He has a lower rate due to long term capital gains on his investments. However those investments have already paid a 35% corporate tax rate (before tax loopholes). His real effective tax rate is his personal taxes PLUS his share of the corporate taxes.
He conveniently leaves that crucial part out of his equation. His effective tax rate is probably closer to 50%.Comment -
