Google spider not sure I understand it. Google scans the web randomly based on certain words and would look into a thread if those words was in it then counting it as a view. Is that what it is?

Google has bots to scan so they can index... that's how you appear on a Google search. But their spiders also post random things like "I love this forum since it provides me with info I need. I really hope you keep working on this forum because I love it". I'm not sure what the point of that is since I'm not very techie... someone once explained it as that's how Google is keeping track of where they visited or what key words are being searched but I'm not sure if that's accurate since I've never looked into it.

Yeah that's usually where you'll get them. The other subforums are accurate as there really isn't much spam in them at all... although the AI forum gets quite a few spammers too for some reason. I think it's because of the # of links in the thread. Even when a spammer comes on - and a poster will never see it because the posts go to Post Review so the thread isn't bumped - it's because the thread contains random links ie to a movie review site or whatever. Really bizarre stuff to see spammers posting about the best m-a-t-t-r-e-s-s (big one these days) for your money in a thread about Toy Story 8's box office lines at Bodog. And some of these spammers are pulling a Sickler and bumping threads from 3yrs ago just to post this stuff. Seriously can't figure out how it works.

Yeah I guess it's a double edged sword, right? You want to be high profile enough to feature in the top 3 hits of what someone is searching but those spider things are a pain in the arse. I do agree though... I've changed to gmail as my main email accounts and it's a bit of a shocker. I go to delete my Spam inbox and they're giving me recipes for Spam in their ads. Yeah it's funny at first but it does make you feel a bit yuck.

And yes, that game was 2yrs old but seeing that thread makes my heart sing every time. Not sure why... I see many threads like that on SBR every day that'll die out but that one just has that special something that keeps on going. In fact, I'm off to read it again
