When you take just that piece of her statement, it does look somewhat bad, but when you read the whole thing in context you can see where she's coming from. She's been playing since she was 5, in a fulltime tennis school at 9, etc... Her and her sister happened to be born with freaky gifts but that doesn't mean that any normal person wouldn't be bored of it all after a point and want to do other things (which is what she said in that full interview). She also said the reason she played Brisbane this year for the first time was because it was monotonous going to the same cities year after year... she wants to explore.

She shoots her mouth off at times but in this instance I don't think what she said was shocking or that any of us wouldn't feel the same way if we'd been playing a pro sport since the age of 13. Almost 20 years of her life.

She said that by changing things up, playing less, concentrating more on all of the other stuff in her life that she's hoping it will help keep her motivation up. So obviously the desire's still there... it just sounds like she's burnt out or maybe just over it all. But yeah, that does really show just how extraordinarily freakish she is when she mops the floor with almost everyone.

Yeah I was thinking about this too... how many people who had played a sport for 20yrs professionally, is only 31 and has already managed to bank a decent chunk of cash wouldn't get bored going to the same places every year over and over? Especially when she's still so dominant? When she's 100% healthy, no one can touch her. No matter how competitive you are, you'd think that would get a bit boring too. I bet more athletes would say the same thing if they were being honest - and they've been playing Pro, supporting their families, etc for a much shorter time than pro tennis players tend to do.
