Just from the top of my head... I don't believe the OVER has ever one yet. You can hurry up and check the data. But if you don't know the science behind it... I will let you know.
Ice needs to be at an extreme cold temperature for skilled players to skate their best. If the temp is anywhere around the 35 degree mark or higher... the ice breaks up... causing slush and a slow skating surface. Also, the puck isn't crisp... thus pass to pass... stick/puck handling skills.... and skating are at a negative. (Yes, they have even tried to freeze all the pucks... and that doesn't work either.) They have tried throughout the years to bring in machines to keep the ice cold... THIS DOESN'T WORK. It's not like at an arena setting where you can keep the humidity levels low inside a building. Outside is totally different.
With all of this in mind... oddsmakers have trouble each year on the total with this game. The only way this game goes over is with a massive amount of power plays including a few 5 on 3's. Do you go with the trend??? TAKING THE UNDER... or will VEGAS allow the OVER today?
If you guys are wondering how cold the surface temp of the ice should be??? How about the arenas in Detroit and Edmonton... who keep the ice around 6 degrees. You guys do the math. The current outdoor temp at 2:25 EST is 40 degrees.
