    In Gambling.

Lets say your friend, someone you genuinely care about texed you and told you he has 1000$ riding on NY tonight against Dallas.

You have nothing on it and no vested interest in the game.

    Honestly.

    Would you root against him?

I too believe that this is a strange question.

What is strange is that theres plenty of people who would root for their friends to lose.

Not if they genuinely care about them. If it is a friend go is a cocky prick and he can afford to lose the money, I wouldn't mind watching him shut up... Besides ... Go Dallas!

I guess it depends, for an amount like 1000 bucks I would most likely be rooting for him, how ever, if it were an inconsequential amount i may not be rooting against him, per se, but seeing him lose to needle him about it might be fun.

There are friends, enemies, and frienemies. The latter two root against you for a variety of reasons. If you find yourself rooting against your friend, you probably are more of a frienemy.

I root for my friends because they'll probably by us all a round when they win; unless I'm on the other side of the bet. Then I root against them.

I wouldn't say i do this but i did have a thought about this earlier when my friend had what I thought was Jets under 18 pts, but he had the under for second half of 18. There was a point in the game where i thought, i hope he loses. Just goes to show how little we control our thoughts. I would never think it, but i did.

It is normal if there's a competitive nature between the friends. Trying to steal each other's girlfriend, etc....

Something I have learned over the years is that the word "normal" should not even exist in the English launguage.

There is no such thing as "normal".
