There are dozens, maybe hundreds, of pay-for-info online "people finder" sites.
You type in name and state (sometimes city, sometimes approx age) and for a fee the "snoop site" provides you with varying levels of info - all obtained from public records.
Basic searches (address, age, near relatives) run from a few bucks to about ten bucks.
Advanced (prior addresses, maybe aliases, marriages, and same info as above) Maybe $20 or $30
Premium (same as above but with criminal checks) Could be $40 to $60
The info comes back fast, online.
Who uses these services?
Prospective employers, to know what they may be getting, and to uncover liars. Ditto re prospective landlords.
People dating (esp women) wanting to know more about a prospective or actual romantic partner.
And just plain snoopers, neighbors who want to know who's living next door, etc
I'M NOT SUGGESTING ANYONE ENTER THIS CROWDED FIELD, IE PAY-FOR-INFO.
I am suggesting that for tech savvy people there seems a way to get rich quick.
I saw two now altered sites do it.
They started out as TOTALLY FREE people info sites, then sold out for big money (had to be) to the major pay-for-info snoop sites.
Nor, apparenty, did they starve in their start-up effort - so many people would access their truly free (all the pay sites claim they are "free" to draw in searchers) snoop searches that banner ads and links went for good bucks.
But, both these sites went for the gold - sold out to a coupla of the biggies.
WhitePages.com used to give, free, the same basic info as you pay for on the snoop sites.
And Pretrieve would do the same, and I tbink (tho never used it) would give a few tidbits from Advanced.
WhitePages last year sold out to one of the biggies, I forgot which. And Pretrieve also last year gave it up to the biggest snoop site, Intelius.
It can't be all that hard to tap into public records nationwide. So many sites are doing it. Tho doubtless some hefty start up costs.
You set up a totally free site with the info - you don't want to tangle with the big established sites.
You should get enough traffic to begin with to sell adspace to pay the rent.
And stick with it - eventually, with the pay sites losing money because of you, one or more of them will make an offer. One that should allow you a comfortable lifelong retirement.
Better than hitting a five-teamer with a four figure bet.
