Too many competitive teams in the AL next year. I wouldn't bet for it after losing CJ Wilson to a division rival.

+1600 to make world series or to win? +1600 to make it there seems like a GREAT bet. Yu Darvish could be the read deal. They might still get Fielder too.

Wilson is overrated. Darvish will probably be better.

Not sure you grasp the concept. This bet is to win the AL pennant. Any futures bets you've made on this were winners the past 2 years.

Ahhh I see... As the Buffalo Bills of baseball it is probably a solid play then...

                        why didn't you hedge that?

i had georgia tech at 75-1 to win the ncaa tournament in 2004, i ended up winning about 5k by hedging the last 2 games instead of losing it all.

anything over 10-1 should be hedged imho

It was a relatively small play as I wouldn't ever do a futures bet that I would have to hedge out (although I'm still pissy about them choking)...

And I actually think I broke about even on the WS as I did end up betting on St. Louis in couple of games they won (although I'm still pissy about them choking)...

Polly.......I know you fancy yourself a "sharp" (which we all think is simply adorable around here.).......

but the facts are.....I've won a lot more than I've lost betting on the Texas Rangers the past few years.

Futures bets are like big parlays, pal. Fun to make, but hard to hit. You'd be wise to keep those kinds of bets pretty small.

Anytime you need some help, don't hesitate to ask again, pal.

                                    fair enough.

i go the other way - i almost never make a futures bet that i CAN'T hedge later. if you won't be able to hedge it later it means the team you took didn't make it very far...

even if it was only something like 20 to win 440 i would've hedged 150 of that in the world series, no matter what the $ amount it sucks to lose on a 22-1 that makes the final

Rangers have a very good shot to get to the series again.

Here are your 2012 AL Playoff teams
                                          1. Yankees
                                          2. Tigers
                                          3. Rangers
                                          4. Angels

so the cardinal rule is to only bet on teams you have no emotional interest in?
that's almost impossible for a sports fan, try to find a game between two teams that you like exactly the same amount.

i would much rather pick a spot on a team i watch all the time (go with what you know). gambling is supposed to be fun you know...

their division rival stole one of their top pitchers and also happened to sign the best player to ever play baseball. Angels team to beat in that division.

The Angels have always been the team to beat in the West....the Rangers have just happened to beat them the past 2.

                                                    Stole one of their pitchers?

They gave fukkin' CJ his walking papers, pal. Nolan saw the last he ever wanted to see of CJ in a Rangers uniform last October.

No chance. I like either the Boston Red Sox offense or the L.A. Angels to win the AL pennant
