    Screen Resolution Question
I just changed my screen resolution to 1920x1200. Something I should have done months ago. Incredible clarity.

    But... I'm only halfway there.

Right now, when I open a web page, it opens in a tiny format, and I have to increase the size manually with my mouse wheel. The page then looks very sharp, but this still leaves the tabs and browser buttons way too small. And for a lot of programs this manual adjusting of the screen doesn't work.

I messed around with display settings (in control panel), but can't find anything there to solve this problem.

Does anybody know how to adjust the settings correctly? Thanks!

Did you adjust the screen resolution by hand or install new video drivers with more res' options offered?

You should be able to change the default sizes and stuff on your browser.

        By hand.

Yes, but I haven't yet found out how.

Solved most of it. Was very simple. Just a couple of programs don't adjust to the new size. But this 1920x1200 resolution is out of this world! Thanks for the input.

Problem that persists is with java applications. Anybody know how to increase their size with higher screen resolutions?

The Java problem is real, but there are ways around it:

You shouldn't have to increase the size of anything. I use 1920x1200 on a 24 inch monitor and it's fine. The whole purpose of using a big monitor and a large resolution is to cram more stuff in, not make it bigger.

I disagree. The purpose of that resolution is to have a much clearer picture. If you use java applications that now look very small, and have no problem with that, that is your choice, but it is not a smooth transition to a higher resolution. I have 1920x1200 with 24 inch monitor as well, and am, by now, determined to get it exactly as I want it. Quite amazing that big monitors are sold without a clear explanation of how to make the java transition easy.

The funny thing is that the browser can be easily adjusted, with the mouse wheel, and remembers the size after that. But you have to do it once for each website.

                    Just Java is the problem.

Don't know about the Java problem, but I agree 1920x1200 resolution is the way to go.

                        It's incredibly clear, isn't it?

So you work with very small java applications? I'm asking because I think this is a widespread problem, that is just screaming for a simple solution. Either people don't use the capacity of their big expensive monitors, or they're looking at miniature java paintings. I contacted the person who wrote this:

because I don't understand how to use it. Supposedly it can solve the problem.

Yes very clear, it was difficult to make the jump but once you get use to it you can't go back. I don't use much Java programs at all so I don't have that problem. At first I use to adjust the text to make it bigger but some sites use to get disfigured or some the stylesheets wouldn't let me change it so I ended up getting use to the small text. I don't find it a problem now.

                            True.

Try this. Go to Display Properties, Settings, Advanced. Change DPI setting to "Large size" (click "Yes" once prompted to skip file copying). Everything gets bigger. Now, wherever you increased the size of anything, most likely you will need to change those settings back to normal. Then, you have it just the way you want it: high resolution clear picture and easy readable text.

Thanks Data. I already tried that, but it's blowing up things way beyond where I want them, including things like icons that I hadn't enlarged. I may play around with different settings a little more (either standard DPI settings or manual sliding scale; each requires a restart). Still trying to solve the java puzzle.
