No, tho sometimes you can get good info there, esp if beat writer is good and gives inside stuff and not press handouts.

A lot of it's online anyway.

I do buy USA Today one day a year for their NCAA tournament write-ups. Also usually when flying, and will sometimes pick up a local paper when in the air, just to see what they're saying about sports and other stuff.

Newspapers are a dying busness. None of them are making the kind of money they used to, and many are letting go of their top sports and other beat reporters (like the San Diego Union did). My sister knows an editor for the Newark NJ (jj's hometown) Star Ledger and he tells her the paper is bleeding cash badly. They cuased an uproar among older readers when they dramatically revised their money-biurning obituary pages.

Craigslist has put a big dent in the very lucrative classified ad section for all of them. The SD Union now gives FREE classified ads to individuals.

All OK with me. They are all, all the big ones, simply mouthpieces of the new and very dangerous American imperialism. None of th big ones saw thru the lies leading up to the Iraq invasion - while many righteous online news and info sites did so.

And with the demise of the metro daily a lot fewer trees will be heading toward the sawmill.

No. I don't really use papers for anything any more. Exception is when I am traveling and want to get a feel for what is going on locally. Or sometimes Sunday to check out the ads.
