Let It Ride -- realism because I can see all of the characters in that movie at the track. Degenerates unite!
Jay Trotter: May I... buy you a drink? Mrs. Davis: I don't see why not. I'm on the pill.
Marty: Eight's the one, I'd stake my life on it. Jay Trotter: They've got a $2 minimum bet.
Jay Trotter: [after realizing he has just one a heap of money while watching the race among the social elite] Did I win? Did I WIN? SON-OF-A-BITCH! GOD LIKES ME! HE REALLY, REALLY, LIKES ME! WHAT A DAY! WHAT A FABULOUS DAY!

Had some great lines. I think I remember someone complimenting Jennifer Tilly's legs, and she says "Thank you. They go all the way from my ass to the floor"

Extremely realistic I thought, which ironically, not all true stories are.

Not that anyone here (hopefully) got in as deep as he did, but I'm sure many could relate to that feeling of always chasing....looking for that one big break that never came.
He was a mess. He's hard to look at anyways, so whenever he plays a depressing role (Boogie Nights, Love Liza) it takes it to another level.

Very underrrated sports gambling cult movie -- The Deli. Try this one out if you have never seen it.

Does anyone know of a movie that involves Gambling by i think 4 young adults that get into trouble and have to win back there money. The only part i can remember is at the end a guy and girl go into what looks like a mobs high stake blackjack room to play for big stake and the guy catches the dealer stacling the deck againest the other guy.

Intacto is inimitable and stylish. Owning Mahoney owns. Rounders rules. The Cooler is cool sans the deus ex machina ending from left field. High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story was below expectations but certainly watchable. Two for the Money was pretentious and overacted. 21 was an embarassment to film-making.
I think Casino is the best gambling movie if it qualifies. I love the ending where DeNiro says..."But in the end, I wound up right back where I started. I could still pick winners".

Rounders and Two for the Money are two among the best IMO, alhough I don't think I've seen The Cooler...
Another one I remember liking is Hard Eight but it's been awhile since I saw it (I think I have a copy in storage somewhere) so I can't remember how realistic it was... I guess I need to go dig it up and watch it again...

Eight men out. Very real. True story about fixing the World Series. All the other movies mentioned so far are not based on real events. And when you say, which one is best in realism....well something that is real.

I doubt anyone here has seen it, but California Split is the most realistic gambling movie I have watched.
It may also be the best.

Rounders is a piece of shit. I just saw the ending to it again recently. What a joke.
I forgot how bad it really was. Of course I agree with you X on California Split.

After 30 years, "The Gambler" is still a great gambling movie. James Caan is to gambling movies and TV shows what Paris Hilton is to bad acting and even worse boyfriend choices. "Owning Mahoney" is a must see. Unfortunately, their are many more bad films on the subject. "Two For The Money" was horrendous. I have not seen 21, but knowing the true story and seeing clips I am assuming it does the book no justice. As a "aspiring" screenwriter, I can only hope my screenplay about gambling makes everyone on this fantastic forum happy!!
