Sounds like he's surviving out there

I think the show is starting to pick up now, the little synopsis they had before the 4th episode helps.

They have an owners license now so yes but the general public is not allowed on the grounds at most tracks. They do have a breakfast at Monmouth, and Saratoga and maybe other places. If they do, and you like the races, I highly recommend it.

i hope hbo doesn't can this show like they did john from cincinnati, which i like better than luck.
the thing about this show creator is his shows are like reading a book. they build slowly to take time to develop.
the poker thing was ridiculous. are there poker rooms in california?

The vast majority do but it is becoming increasingly popular to be off track. From the horses perspective, it is night and day different. The atmosphere is so relaxed off site compared to the traffic jam of horses that all have to train within a small window time frame when on site, that it really shows. The edge was always that you did not have to ship but I don't think that there is nearly as much advantage to that as there once was.

Plenty of Poker rooms in Southern California. Hustler Casino is about seven miles from Hollywood Park. In total there may be six or seven Poker clubs in the L.A. area. Poker rooms are also found in the indian casinos but they are 60 to 100 miles from L.A. for the most part.

The most recent episode has the poker scenes shot at the Hollywood park casino. The show is improving.

Yea it seems like a lot of HBO series takes time to pick up. Like the sopranos and boardwalk empire.

Was pissed when they cancelled that show.
I thought I read the other day that they suspended filming "luck" because 3 of the horses used have died during the filming.

Maybe the horses overdosed on Ronny's drugs?

Horses will flip for a lot of reasons.
In this case, it is probably a person doing something that they did not realize would scare the horse or something that is usually not in a place that the horse is familiar with is now there and is a structure 8-10 feet tall or more.
Certainly a shame, but very predictable.

I loved that show! It was cool.
I think Luck sticks around. It is awesome, my only complaint is do we need dramatic theme music throughout 99% of the show? Ease up on that shit Rain Man.
Other than that pure gold. Kind of pissed the double agent kid got whacked, I thought he was kind of cool. You could see it coming a mile away though.
100% agree on the Irish Girl

Too bad. HBO had already extended the show for a second season. But horse deaths due to fractures are tough to overlook. In my opinion the show could have done a lot of good for the popularity of horse racing, so I wish PETA had backed off a little.

LA is poker mecca. Hollywood Park, Hustler, Commerce, too many private games to count.

The show could have done fine without the actual racing scenes.Don't see why they couldn't just implement the needed results of the races into the characters dialogue.Think it had just as much to do with the poor ratings it was getting.

The show had artistic potential but commercial liabilities. Had they had the chance to do it over I sure things would have been handled differently. I agree the racing scenes seemed to be over produced. I sad for some of the actors but in the end luck was a longshot from the start.

Really sad to see Luck get cancelled and the deaths of the horses. Would be nice if they at least wrapped up the series as a full-length movie sometime. So many different plots going on and it would have all come together powerfully in another season or two.
