Yes... Eddie Felson's [Newman] entire philosophy is 'to be a student of human moves' ....you play the player not the game.... thats the exact blueprint of poker and any head to head gambling, be it chess, backgammon, or dominos...

But i guess my comment was more directed toward the acting and the chracter.... Because Newman's character does it from the moment the movie begins, Matt damon's has to take a lot of lumps to get there......

1 - The Gambler (is probably the best movie I've seen on the subject)
2 - Let it Ride (more tongue in cheek view of gambling)
                                      3 - Color of Money

Not about Poker, but is a good movie. Young Tom Cruise is good in that too.

In no particular order ... The Sting, Grifters, House of Cards, and Color of Money are all worth the view IMO.

There are a lot Hong Kong movies about the gambling underworld from the late 80s until mid 90s.
Pretty good ones, some funny and some brutal.

                                                      a couple examples:
poker themed God of Gamblers and God of Gamblers 2, casino themed Casino Raiders or The Conman
maybe a newer 2000 movie is good to enter HK's cinema: Conman in Tokyo

But i guess my comment was more directed toward the acting and the chracter.... Because Newman's character does it from the moment the movie begins, Matt damon's has to take a lot of lumps to get there......
