Guess it would be an unfair advantage. I know I personally can cut 20 seconds off my mile time just by jamming some Sepultura.

Three reasons that I never used an iPod when I ran marathons:

        1. Extra weight - just like a car, more weight with the same horsepower = reduced performance
        2. Rythmic distraction - music changes your running rhythm
        3. Ear buds fall out of my ears all the time when I'm running and headphones are too hot.

I never thought I would enjoy running either. I always said I would rather play a sport (I play a lot of basketball). However, I started running when I quit smoking after college to get my lung capacity back. I started out barely being able to run a half mile without stopping but after a month and a half, I was running 8 miles per day. It became a personal challenge for me to get to that point. Not only was it fulfilling in that sense but it also increased my endurance in basketball phenominally.
