It is quite different than buying a Roger Staubach jersey, Yankee stadium seat or other sports memorabilia as there is at least a small chance that those items can increase in value. This can't happen with the Packer shares.

Its one thing if some BILLONAIRE loyal Packers fan buys a share as $250 to him might be the same as a quarter to the rest of us (yes I realize the ratio would make us all millionaires) but its absolutely insane for anyone to spend $250 on a share whose net worth is less than $1,000,000.
Most of the people who purchase sports memorabilia arent doing it because they plan to sell it one day. They do it because they are fans. Is it always about money with you republicans?

sure he is, their is no 'owner' of the packers, it is owned by the public through shareholders.

For the rubes who can't figure this out. Teams make additions and improvements to stadiums. It costs money. Teams try to get tax money to pay for portions of these things. Like the marlins somehow getting 75-80% paid by taxes. Packers make money but have the ability and demand to pull this off. Seems like a better idea than going to county government to get tax dollars.

Most teams don't have the ability to do this seeing there are some trashy folks in many cities who won't support the team this way. Packers are in a unique situation and have the support of the entire state. So basically it is a donation that allows you to go to the stockholder meeting while helping the team.

DrStale, not surprisingly you're missing the point entirely as democrats have a lot of trouble grasping simple concepts.

Anyone who is buying these $250 shares in the Green Bay Packers is making a charitable donation to the team and nothing more. If you can afford to be making $250 donations, why not donate that money to a charity that helps people in need?

There are so many great charities to choose from that help out the disadvantaged in our society and its a shame democrats donate so little (as compared to republicans) to these charities.

Democrats sure like to TALK about helping the poor WITH OTHER PEOPLES MONEY but do very little talking with their own money. Instead they donate it to the Green Bay Packers, LOL.

when did this turn into if you can afford to do x, then you should donate to charity. well if you can afford to gamble, maybe you should just stop right now and donate every-penny you have extra in your bank account to it. i mean it is too a good cause.

that is such a bull shit.

again, people, its not about the profit its about the intrinsic value of it.

Exactly. It circumvents using tax dollars as revenue for making stadium renovations. Apparently, most people here would rather have their government force them to pay for it.

I think it's far classier than begging the government for money like every other billion dollar team does.

Print a Packers Logo on a piece of paper and sell it for $250! It's amazing what some people will buy. P.T. Barnum was right my friends. I'm a fan, but for $250, there better be an Arron Rodgers jersey attached to that stock certificate!
