many scenarios ... the way I saw it was like this:

For dortmund to qualify they had to win by 4...and Arsenal had to win
So for the first half dortmund was poundind marsaille...ended up being up 2-1 with a late goal by Marsaille
but at the same time arsenal was losing and they were fielding a weakend team...but Dortmund did not know this until they probably saw the score at half time...so now Dortmund needs to win the second half by 3 and Arsenal has to come back on the road playing a fully motivated Olympiakos squad when Arsenal has already qualified...

Players realize this and there goes their motivation seen in the first half
