Many would argue it's strictly a $$ issue....on many levels. It goes from kids knowing where they can make the big bucks, and soccer falls behind many more popular sports in the US, where in poorer countries it's the only sport and is followed more closely

poor countries they don't have much to eat
so they relate to a bunch of skinny guys running around
here in the u.s. we are fat and lazy - relate more to prince fielder

yanks can't stand watching 2x45min without a break. they need a fix for every play, and an insane amount of advertising crap. so americans can't stand watching 90 minutes nonsense ballkicking on a field with zero, one or two goals happening.
honestly, every american sport is driven by getting points and a potential hit every second or every play. every football play can result in a potential TD, INT or whatever, baseball in hits and homeruns, hoops is fast paced and have high scores.
i think there's already a huge thread about this topic on sbr. must be in player talk section.

Baseball is seriously a terrible sport to play and watch.
Soccer is growing in the us and will pass baseball. Soccer is big in more cultured US cities and will continue to get bigger. Young married couples with money and kids have their kids play soccer, not baseball. Much more exciting to go to a quality soccer match. People that have been to both know. Most people in America have never been to a quality soccer match with passionate fans.

American sports developed at times when the US was very much 'isolationist'.
As DS mentioned, there has been no real incentive for top US athletes to consider soccer due to the economic rewards on offer and the much more accessible routes in their 'own sports'.
The 'poor countries' argument doesn't stack up. American football derived from Rubgy and Soccer which at the time was only played in the UK which was a far richer country than the US at that time. Likewise basketball is the only true American (major) sport and only needed a ball and a couple of peach baskets to play. Baseball doesn't need any more or less equipment than cricket which is by far the biggest sport in India.

Incorporate a shot clock and take away offsides and it would be salable.

They should add something to soccer to make it more exciting though, like a free blow job for every game you watch.

LOL. It was tried as a charity exhibition once. Both teams just loaded up the box with 5 or 6 attackers and hit long balls with the midfield totally vacated. Even what they did in the US in the 70's (an offside line about half way inside each half) totally changed the dynamic of the game - for the worse.

I want to like it but it's so boring if you can take a nap and it's the same score when you wake up then I think something doesn't add up.

baseball is awesome, so suspenseful. no time pressure.
i like soccer but it's only hard to score because you can't use your hands, which is weird, because as humans our hands are a key element to what got us evolving as a species. soccer is the weirdest sport to me by far.
hockey has the best rules.

baseball worst sport by far
guys weigh 250 pounds pure fat
only a few mexicans and blacks can run fast around bases
guys drink beer and chew tobacco, probably even have a couple smokes during changeovers.
requires 0 athleticism.
guys are only strong. not fast, can't jump, can't do anything athletic except for a few players on each team.
they would die if they ran 2 minutes on the nba court. they would pull a hamstring immediately thats how out of shape they are

Yep, immigrants and kids without any real athletic talent. Nobody else is going to waste their time playing this kind of "sport", especially if a Yahtzee game or dart board is open.
