Nicky, I have quit for all practical purposes, thanks to you. I may throw a 10 spot here or a 20 spot there, but the heart of the disease is dead. You have saved me.

Best advice I can give u is, put that money in a 4 month CD then put it all on Brandon Lang's Super Bowl pick. He sucks 364 days a year but always wins the SB.

You might want to ask poster Accuscoresucks about that one.

I say you put a penny at 5 different good books. You then bet a $1 a game for a year or so. If you can do that and win and not go all in then I'd say your ready for more money.

To be a successful gambler you have to be able to realize that a lot of money you put down you will probably never see again...

You also have to come to terms with reality... Casino's, Horse Tracks and SportsBooks involve betting against the house.. They ARE NOT in the business to lose so you have to be able to play smart plays, do some research and try to get the odds as close to a coin flip as possible.

I got started gambling at 17... snuck into a casino and won 200.00 playing BJ I have had huge wins of 15k and I have also ended up bouncing checks to get back in the game. I would get super stressed out and end up screwing myself over. I then came to terms with the fact that betting recreationally while doing some homework can yield good results so long as you realize that the odds will NEVER be on your side.

With all this in mind.. poker is the only exception to my opinion. But it still has a hell of a lot of luck involved.

xstud, good post, but giving advice on how to win in gambling to a 19 yr old wont work. you either got it or you dont.. its like teaching me how to be a good artist like happy boy. forget it.

also, LUCK DOES NOT EXIST in gambling.. trust me.. people that win long term are not winning because they're lucky.. and people that lose every month tell me, nicky, i am the most unluckiest gambler in the world, i never win.. now that's a good one.. they dont win because they lay -110 and the numbers always catches up to them.

i had a friend named Eddy who was a degenerate. this guy was hitting over 50% all his life. he really was a lucky gambler. but he'd always go broke. and he'd always tell me, nicky, i am the unluckiest gambler in the world, i never win.. that's right eddy, you dont win because you lay -110 all the time, and you have only 1 bookie and never shop.

people will always say they're not lucky and if they were, they'd win.. BULLSHIT.. if you play the #'s properly, they will put you a winner. (very very very hard to do) and if you dont play the proper lines, the numbers will ALWAYS catch up to you and YOU WILL LOSE..

                  LUCK DONT EXIST IN GAMBLING..

Nicky, I should have clarified.... I was refering to luck in poker.

Sports betting is all about shopping like you said... doing a little research and hoping you can get things close to that coin flip factor or better.

Great advice about the young guy not even getting started... I just figure if he is posting at a gambling message board there is no hope.... try to steer the ship as right as possible

Nicky, how many friends do you have? It seem you always have a friend who went through every situation that has arisen on this board.

                          panner,

i have a lot of friends.. but all my friends are bettors etc.. i have really no good friends.. just gambler friends. panner, i am very well known in this city amongst gamblers. if you bet sports in the 90's, then 94% chance you know me. i was everyone's bookie back then. panner, i am like a movie star in this city.. i can't leave my house without bumping into people i know who come and want to start talking to me about gamblng, and who i like, and if i'm still booking, and so on. panner, unfortunately, i hate talking to these deadbeats. it's always the same sht.. panner, i dont like to talk to anyone.. i am very anti social. i dont like talking to these deadbeats. i wish i was popular here amongst people like a famous movie star is like deniro, or pacino. instead, i am well known only to a bunch of degenerates who wanna talk about gambling. HOW SAD MY LIFE IS..

OMFG! If you don't want to listen to me, at least listen to that lunatic JJGold! "Investing" (I hate to use that word) with them is worse than taking your entire life savings to go play $15 per spin at some high roller online casino.

I had quit gambling a few years ago for 3 or 4 months, but the gambling I was doing were table games and some slots. Than I got introduced to sports gambling, this site and my local book, and well there is no way I can quit now. I have for a week here and there but than I just run down and by a sports select ticket. It is sick but I love it!!

                                          1. Go to college
                                          2. Learn how to think and analyze
                                          3. If it's either study for your finals or cap games, skip the games and study
4a. Start betting when you're really ready, or..
4b. Use your college degree to get a normal life.

                                          Best of luck to you.
