Who came up with the word "pal" - Everyone in playerstalk uses it now

I hate this word

Its spreading like a fukkin disease. Even I have probably used it a time or two because it is stuck in my head.

The first person I remember using this word is either Venditto or the Lakerman.

Now every single posters uses this word in players talk on a daily basis.

It is now Opium's new word. Uses it in all his posts. Dunstin also uses the word and zeta and others.

I've never heard it used in face to face conversation

It is not my "new" word, it has been stuck in my vocabulary (both on & off the chit-chat room) for over a year now.

I catch myself using it all the time. My wife even notices it. I'll be talking to a vendor over the phone, and I'll say "I appreciate it, pal."
Or even in person, I'll say "Ok, pal....sounds good."

I think JJ popularized its use, but I think I mainly picked it up from conversing with Rudy Ruettigger.

It seems to be a word tossed around with high frequency primarily by sharp, successful gamblers. (this is probably quite telling about those who do not like the word)

Other than this....not much I can do for 'ya, pal.
