I seriously can't handle the ups and downs of gambling

I go from a $2,000 deposit to $18000, feel like I can't be beat, then withdraw 10K, leaving 8K, planning on running it back up thinking I won't have to deposit in the near future, then I blow that 8K, and have to send $2,000 back in and start over.

I can't handle it. I just can't handle losing. If I have a losing day, I take it personally. I make sure that I win it back the next day and then it just gets into this chasing habit.

All the while, my personal life suffers, I go from being in a great mood with the g/f and promising to take her to dinner and movie to telling her to shut the fukk up and go away because I get hit on a bad beat.

Don't think I can handle it anymore. Too negatively affecting my personality, mood, and health.

It has been profitable, but I"m not sure if wild erratic profits are worth the damages. I'm too young for this shit. Maybe I'll get divorced in my 40s and can move to vegas with no responsibility or commitment and degen my life away. The only time I feel alive lately is when I cash a huge bet and that doesn't seem healthy.

I'm a pretty normal guy. My family doesn't know I gamble, my mother is very southern baptist and would claim it is a huge sin and that I need to right myself with God.

Go through a girlfriend a year typically, but I like this one and I'm going to assume that if i continue gambling, she won't put up with this moody shit.

I either win big or lose big. When I lose, I lose fast. 3-4 bets in a row drains my bank after a week of building it up. Thank God I usually get 2-3 payouts in before I fukk it up.

Man, I've always wondered about addiction.

I used to smoke pot weekly in high school, I don't crave the stuff anymore and never touch it.

I used to drink daily in college. I could never drink again and be fine.

But I have gambled pretty much every day of my life since I was 18 in some form or fashion. They say some are prone to be addicts, but the ONLY thing I've ever been addicted to is gambling. And Japanese steakhouse.

Don't watch the games. Don't obsess over updates. That's what I do to detach myself. Also, I don't think of the money in my account as 'money' rather just numbers on a screen. If I have a big hit, the number goes up. If I have a big loss, the number goes down. I rationalize it as just a number.

Also, if you really are trying to quit (or have tried to quit), then you're not going to be unsure in your desire to quit. You're using that wishy-washy thinking as a crutch to continue to gamble, and blaming your friend who introduced you to gambling is a cop out. Either embrace the fact that you go on good runs and pull out before you blow your wad, or stop. Simple as that.

Stick to the Japanese steak house addiction...I really feared my gambling issues would strengthen putting down the booze...thankfully I have far less urge and much more control...I think it's because I have a grip on the one thing that had the most control over me...best of luck...
