    Canadian olympic team?
Did they make it to China?

Do they concentrate that much more on the winter games?

I think Pavyracer's country has more medals then them.

Almost a week in and there 0-0-0 in medals.

They sent like 350 athletes and have nothing to show for it. 35 countries have medaled, but not Canada, who have one of the larger contingents. They should medal in women's soccer and softball.

And yes, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have a bronze each. I am not a citizen of either country. I'm just located there.

I believe we are supposed to have some high hopes in trampoline.

It feels like I'm joking to say that but, no, seriously.

Water curling? If there was such a thing I bet we'd kick ass at it. It sounds right up our alley.

The stated goal was 16 medals.

I'm not sure how we are going to get to that number, but obviously we must have some serious medal contenders coming up. There are a few of the rowers who are gold medal favorites that haven't raced yet.

Yes, a very dissapointing start to the olympics for the Canadians........I notice a lot of:
                        Did not qualify
                        Eliminated
                        9th place
                        Last place

                        Pretty sad showing so far.

she says the country has the same population as California and therefore shouldn't be considered on the same level, whatever LOL

well, Lewis is Canadian.. kind of odd that he'd box for Canada in the Olympics and then say he's British as a pro.. whatever. He definitely does still spend time in Canada, I saw him at a Raptors game once.

I'm Canadian, and don't particularly expect a whole lot from Canada in the summer olympics.. but what bothers me is that we send so many people over there and make such a big deal of it. How much federal money is spent per medal? Unfortunately Canadians have an inferiority complex and always feel like they have to compete with the U.S.-- there are some sports that Canadians are good at and they should just concentrate on those, IMO.

I guess I'm just a big old cornball but I am proud of the Canadians I see representing us. They almost all seem nice, bright, humble.

When I watched them enter during the opening ceremones and I saw all the happy faces and youthful exuberance and the many ethnicities I thought, 'Yeah. Canada is a cool place.' I liked how we must look to the world.

My medal expectations aren't particularly high. I am happy with whatever we get. We are a small population compared to some places so statistically, we shouldn't be serious competition for China and the U.S. and whatever. But we find our spots. I think we do fine.

On a per capita basis, there are countries like Australia that do better and there are countries like India that do a hell of a lot worse.

                              We're good.
