    Marshall / memphis
MEMPHIS – Marshall could be only one snap away from a real quarterbacking quandary.
When the Herd (4-6, 3-3 Conference USA) plays Memphis (2-8, 1-5) at 8 p.m. Thursday here in the Liberty Bowl, Marshall will have only two quarterbacks at its disposal.
That’s because starting quarterback A.J. Graham injured his right shoulder in a 59-17 loss to Tulsa and is scheduled to have surgery on his throwing shoulder on Friday, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Enter Rakeem Cato as Marshall’s starting quarterback.
That isn’t a concern because the true freshman started Marshall’s first six games of the 2011 season, leading the Herd to significant victories over Southern Miss and Louisville.
But what if Cato also is injured?
That’s where the quandary arises because Cato’s backup, sophomore Eddie Sullivan, has quit the team, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
That leaves true freshman Blake Frohnapfel as the only other available quarterback.
