#37well almost true lol. i had made some bets in high school but nobody ever got paid lol. so ive been looking through this board and some other boards and my pick is Minnesota +14.5 $81 to win $60 i only have $100 in my account so im freaking out about it but im almost positive that Minn doesnt lose by more than that. they have only been smashed once this year and ponder is a good decision maker and will guide the team into the 4th quarter in a close game. #38You seem like a good guy, and I really hope you win but as mentioned previously you're making a big mistake betting that much. You made the same mistake that I did when I first started. It sucks to only bet a couple of bucks a game, but that's what you should be doing especially in the beginning just to track how you're doing. If you end up really hot you'll hate me, but in the long run it's much smarter.Comment -

#42Good luckShould bet about 3% of bankroll not 81% only way to get experience is to actually bet. Don't mind the haters and don't feel bad betting small amounts!

#44for what it's worth, i'm very surprised to see you made your first bet on a "bad" team. if you keep doing that, especially in the NFL, you'll be unlike the VAST majority of new gamblers, who almost always start out betting public favorites and teams generally perceived to be crappy non-playoff teams. if you keep doing this, and bet MUCH smaller to your overall bankroll size, then you'll be fine. but you first need to determine what your bankroll size is, i.e. how much you can comfortably lose in a season if you have a flat out bad year (i.e. 'bad luck'). You seem like a young guy, probably not making much money at work, assuming you're even employed (not a knock against you, just know your generation is largely unemployable right now). If that is indeed the case, and your bankroll is about $500, then you need to be betting about $20-50 per game. Lots of opinions on this, but I'd recommend either betting $25, $35, or $50 only...just those 3 flat amounts with -110 juice on top of them. If the first $100 is the only money you have for a bankroll this year, then you need to be betting $5-10 per game. The problem with making a $100 deposit and then immediately risking $81 is you're much more likely to just immediately blow through 5 x $100 deposits like most of the posters/squares at SBR, b/c when you find games where you feel have an edge, you don't have anything left, so you just end u chasing with every deposit.
shame was i took my $100 and had it up to $143 in the casino then i went with $5 bj hands and started to lose, ughComment -

#48ok i think thats good advice. pretty much what other posters have been saying in this thread. i probably did too much but i lost about $20 in blackjack and i had to make a big bet so that i wouldnt go back into blackjack. my roommate told me to do it said online casinos are fake and that i better use the money on real sports before i lose it all shame was i took my $100 and had it up to $143 in the casino then i went with $5 bj hands and started to lose, ugh

If your going to start betting sports seriously you have to practice smart bankroll management.
I would suggest measuring your bets in units. Each unit represents a percentage of your bankroll, typically 2-3%. If your feeling really confident about a play make it a multiple unit bet, if your on a losing streak step it back down to 1 or 2 units.
This works because as your bankroll grows, the value of 1 unit increases. Likewise it is important that the value of 1 unit decreases if your bankroll decreases.
Say you make 10 units in a weekend, whether 1 unit of your bankroll represents $1 or $1000, you're still +10 units on the weekend.
The key is you want to be able to withstand multiple game losing streaks without breaking the bank.
Most people will go bust if they lose 5 bets in a row.
Chasing your losses is the easiest way to go bust.
Also, all online casino's are rigged. Stay away!!

#58if you only gamble money you have, and don't get into debt from easy access to credit you will be fine. just don't be stupid and apply for cards just to gamble with. that will only get you in trouble. just use the money you have, and have fun with it.
a lot of people think they have the key to gambling, that you can't do this, or you can't do this or you have to do that. well, it certainly hasn't worked out for them, so just play the picks you like, and enjoy the excitement.Comment -
