You're right, of course. But many religions call for absolute forgiveness. There's the crux. That's where the Church's history of molestation starts, from a position of moral superiority.

I believe that the Catholic Church is a corrupt evil cult that in no way represents Biblical Christianity or the true Church. I also believe that many molestors become Catholic priests because it is a good cover for them and also gives them access to kids. But they were molestors before they got ordained.
