How Are The 49ers So Good This Year????

Here is why they are so good:

1. They really underachieved last year. Prior to the start of the season last year, most people picked them to easily win the NFC West, and win somewhere around 10-12 games.

2. They actually have a good coach now

3. They have a coach who can call plays that fit Alex Smith's style and the 49ers offense.

4. They have had a pretty soft schedule. They've played the Seahawks, Bengals, TB Bucs, the Browns, and the Eagles when they were really struggling. Still don't know how they lost to the Cowboys when Kitna played part of that game because of Romo's rib injury.

The funny thing about the schedule is it only gets softer with the divisional games, legit shot to win 13 or 14 games. The games with baltimore and pittsburgh will be measuring sticks. Should be interesting.

The are the K.C Chiefs of this year. In today's NFL you need a top tier QB it is such a passing league. Their defense is not great to keep teams like Eagles, New Orleans, or Green Bay off the board for long. (yes I know they faced the eagles, don't need to say that)

They will win games, but nothing about them excites me. I know San Fran fans think they are top shit, as they should, since they have not had a quality team in years.

Mike Singletary, Wade Phillips and Norv Turner were the dumbest head coaches last year. Norv Turner is still coaching.

I think Singletary was one of the main reasons for their poor ability to win consistently.

1) coaching---went from a terrible , awful , awful coach to a good coach
2) defense--- has been playing well
3) frank gore---on fire
4) crabtree-- has been playing better
5) tedd ginn --- returns are giving sf great field position




regardless, they will never win the superbowl or even a meaningful playoff game with alex smith at QB. this is the one and biggest flaw in this team and unfortunately nobody will figure this out for another year or two because the amount of talent SF has will allow them to keep winning regular season games despite a bad qb. very similar to how tennessee was operating with kerry collins. when the playoffs came he got exposed

alex smith WILL get exposed. this franchise will NEVER get to a conference championship and will struggle to win any playoff games with that bad of a qb..... and dont listen to what the media says... he is bad as ever.

Last year they lost by 3 to NO, by 2 to Atl, by 3 to Phi, all good teams at the time, a few luckier bounces and better coaching and they could have had 10 wins.

Also a big part of Alex Smith's maturity can be attributed to Harbaugh also. I heard Jay Glazer say that during the lockout (within the 2 day span it was lifted so coaches could meet their players) that Harbaugh basically entrusted Alex Smith with the whole playbook offensively and made Smith in charge of teaching and installing his system to the other offensive players.

Smith started his transformation last season. He finished the year with 6 TDs and only 1 INT. Smith became a different player after that blowup on the sidelines last year.

Harbaugh is definitely the difference though. The team is much more fundamentally sound, and is much better at situational football. Their victory over Detroit was a clinic on how to manage the game and win with field position.
