#3Agreed, but I think our fan bases behavior has made conferences gun shy to accept us. I really wish our college aged fan base could get their acts together, and stop acting like it's their first time ever in public. Stereotype brought to life.Comment -

#7If the Big 12 is smart (and I seriously doubt that they are), they grab Louisville and Cincinnati NOW. They go back to a 12 team conference and play a Conference Championship game. USC was the #1 team in both polls in 2003, but did not play in the Chamionship game because LSU and Oklahoma played in a Conference Championship game and USC did not. This is how the computers favor teams with more wins, not necessairily less losses. All three had lost 1 game. Ou lost their Conference Championship game.Comment -

#12You have to wonder if the Big East will even exist soon. I don't think teams are done bolting from the Big 12 either. Iowa State and Kansas are left on an island and wouldn't hesitate to bolt for the Big 10. Their athletics are meh, but both are AAU members which is attractive to any conference. If the Big East does fall apart...what becomes of Notre Dame?Comment -

#15I think the Big 10 is probably finished for awhile. They wanted to get 12 so they could have a conference title game. Notre Dame is really the only team that would instantly make the Big 10 expand again.
As far as Iowa State, they can dream about getting into the Big 10, but they have 0 chance. If the Big 10 really wanted to expand, they could have had Missouri, and the St. Louis and KC markets that go with that. Iowa State adds very little, as far as the tv sets go. And this is all about money...sadly.Comment -

#16The Big East needs to hang up their dreams of staying as a football conference. They are embarrassing themselves trying to bring some of these third tier teams in.Comment -

#18this is great news for WVU, i think they're a great fit in the Big 12. i think that the Big 12 is waiting for a shot at BYU before inviting anyone else (like Louisville or Cincy), but agree with BigDaddy that Big 12 is ultimately where those schools with end up. everyone keeps saying that we're heading for 4 16-team conferences, but i think that 5 conferences with 12-14 teams will be the case in the short-term. Big Ten and ACC are staying at 12 and 14, respectively, hoping for a shot at Notre Dame.
As for the Big East, it's obviously finished as a football conference. Rutgers and UConn would jump at either ACC or Big Ten if invited; ditto Louisville and Cincy with Big 12. USF is the team that's really screwed, as SEC and ACC aren't likely to touch them, so the Bulls can get ready for the CUSA/MWC boondoggle.
Big East's fate is as a hoops only conference, where they can still be pretty decent. we may eventually see a merger of the Big East (hoops only) with the A-10. take the 7 Big East hoops-only teams (SJU, Gtown, Nova, Marq, Seton Hall, Providence, DePaul), add the four consistently competitive A-10 teams (Temple, XU, Richmond, Dayton) and 1-3 others from the A-10 (GW, UMass, URI or maybe one of the Philly teams) and you have a 12-team or 14-team hoops league that could be really compelling. wouldn't be shocked to see them make a run at Butler, either (though hope Butler stays in the Horizon). Big East won't be the elite conference that it has been of late, but it could still be on par with the SEC and PAC-12 in hoops even if it's not on the level of Big Ten/ACC/Big 12.Comment -

#22yeah, UC not screwed as badly as USF, but still a rough spot for you guys. i think that Big 12 wants to make a run at BYU, and what happens with that determines the rest of the course of expansion. if BYU says no (and i think they will), Louisville and Cincy to Big 12 makes a ton of sense. and even if BYU says yes, i think that Houston is also in the mix for Big 12, so they could add all four and go to 14 teams. i think that UC will be out in the cold for a little bit, but ultimately goes to the Big 12.Comment -

#24After all of the hype that the Big 12 was going to be gone a few months ago, I would be laughing my ass off if they somehow eventually became the first 16 team super conference.Comment
