Heh. It's a commercial they play over and over again during each Yankees telecast. Pretty annoying. Those that have the DirecTV MLB package know what I'm talking about...

His really bad year still has him in the top half of SS in baseball. There are a lot of teams that wish they had somebody quite that bad!
I wonder if the Red Sox would rather have him than Lugo this year ... should we ask them?

Not for his salary. He's been worth an extra 3.2 wins above a replacement level shortstop. That is atrocious for someone making $20 million this year. For comparison, the super-amazingly awesome Yunel Escobar has been worth an extra 4.6 wins to his team at roughly 1/50th of the cost.

Juan, when people here are saying he is playing terribly, they are not doing a cost analysis ... they are just disparaging his play.
Since there is not a salary cap in baseball, your analysis regarding cost is irrelevant. It has no bearing whatsoever on a team's success or failure --- at least, not a team like the Yankees ...
I'll ask again, think the Red Sox would trade Lugo for him, straight up?

You claimed that there were a lot of teams that wished they had him. While cost may be of no concern to the Yankees, it is at least a reasonable consideration for pretty much every other team out there. Even then, he has been less productive than the following SSs (WARP2 in parens), none of whom have anywhere near $20 million/year contracts:
Orlando Cabrera (5.6)
Ryan Theriot (4.8)
Yunel Escobar (4.6)
Miguel Tejada (4.5)
Jose Reyes (7.0)
Christian Guzman (4.0)
Hanley Ramirez (7.3)
Michael Young (6.8)
JJ Hardy (6.4)
Jimmy Rollins (3.8)
Jhonny Peralta (5.2)
Brendan Harris also is equal with Jeter in terms of WARP2.
I'll ask again, think the Red Sox would trade Lugo for him, straight up?
They probably would, since Lugo is one of the worst starting SSs in the league.
