You with Bob Barr or against him?
If not you and me, then who will work to protect our Bill of Rights?

July 30th, 2008 by Bob Barr

I recently testified at a congressional hearing about the separation of powers between the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. Incredibly, there was a discussion about the erosion of your rights as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. What is incredible is that we were having the dialogue in the first place.

But, I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. Over the past 50 years, and certainly since 2001, there has been a steady curtailment of the rights our founding fathers fought and died for. And all this has been happening as Congress has allowed the White House to issue uncontested executive orders and bill signing statements of all kinds slowly chipping away the bedrock that was our Bill of Rights.

I’ve created a short video that I hope you’ll watch. Then, I hope you’ll take a moment to sign a special online petition we’ve created. We should collect thousands of these petitions to save the Bill of Rights and deliver Stop the Bill of Rights Blackoutthem to Congress - specifically the Judiciary Committee which held the hearing I mentioned a moment ago.

While the President shouldn’t be so fast to suspend our rights - even during a time of war - I hold the Congress equally accountable. They’ve shunned their sworn duty to uphold and protect the Constitution…after all that’s where the Bill of Rights is found!

When I first considered running for President, it was with the belief that I could change the way Washington does business. I had hoped that I could pressure other candidates and the Congress to respect their oath of office. This petition will help.

Please watch my short video, sign the petition and then forward this information to your family and friends.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Bob Barr

P.S. - Another thing that will help me in this battle to defend the Bill of Rights is a contribution for my Presidential campaign. Please consider what you can do to help, and let me know today.

Didn't Bob Barr pass legislation for the continuation of the War on Drugs?

I was going to vote for Barr just as a 'none of the above' nod, but he's got an even bigger nut job now for a running mate in Root, and damned if I want to be responsible for putting that guy a heartbeat away from running this country.

Its either barr or nothing for me, and his congressional record makes me say i'l;l probably go with nothing. You just can't convince me that he had a changer of heart on so many issues that he fought passionately for in the house.

He is an outsider where both the republicans and especially the democrats don't like him so he muct be doing something right.hehe!I don't find him to have a real big libertarian way of thinking though which he claims to be these days.

I can't for the life of me remember his recent past but didn't he have a skelleton pop up out of the closet?I will Google that one.

Ya,if I do vote I might vote for him even though it's like a vote for Obama. It's at least a protest vote. The trouble with voting though is that you get put on the jury duty list again. Now that's an issue Barr as libertarian should cover. No one including the government should have access to your voting records for other uses.

I was active for many years in the Libertarian Party and, trust me, if you want to vote for Barr as a protest vote you should have zero worries about your vote helping get him anywhere the white house...

As far as Root, I watched quite a bit of the CSPAN coverage and was laughing every time Root got up and said that he should get the nomination because he had a built in constituent in the millions of poker players in this country (he was running for the presidential nom. before become the party's VP candidate)... Most poker players have no clue who this guy is and anyone who does know probably doesn't have a very favorable view of him... then again I guess he has solid history of selling impossibilities as absolutes so I'm sure this made getting up on a stage and spouting off nonsense pretty easy for him...

Yeah, I'm not really worried about ths Libs beating the donkeys and elephants, but voting for a ticket with Root on it would simply leave me mad at myself.
