It doesn't paint you as a Nenderthal, doc. Although I like to think you'd be there for your son, regardless, and even though you would wholeheartedly disagree with what he did, you'd still love him and ultimately support him emotionally and with your love.

Love the sinner, hate the sin ... we all sin. It'd be a shame if people abandoned us whenever we did -- if that happened, everyone would be alone.

I see these poor guys losing their license and losing a ton of money to fines among other things. I wonder if there is a clientele out there Crazy what you think?
It seems like a decent idea

My son knows I love him. He also knows I have zero tolerance for drinking and driving. And he also knows all he had to do was call and I'd come and get him any time any where no questions asked.

I wouldn't stop loving him if he got arrested DUI...but I wouldn't go bail his ass out either. And he knows that...

Remember, Doc, just because he was arrested for DUI doesn't mean he was guilty of DUI. I have a client who got into a severe accident, broke his neck and the other driver was injured as well ... he is going to trial for DUI in a few weeks ...

What was he on? Oxycodone. The exact nanograms per mililiter a theraputic dose would have put in his sytem and his medication was prescribed by his physician (we have the records) -- the state is still prosecuting, however ...

Make sure when you unilaterally play judge, jury and executioner if, God-forbid your son is ever arrested, that he really did it ... if not, it'll be a long time before he forgives you, that is for sure, and he will be in the right ...

I can appreciate it if you don't want to discuss the particulars of a pending case but...Had your client been drinking, as well? Did his Rx say, "Do not mix with alcohol"? Or was all he was on was the Oxy? Did his Rx say, "May cause drowsiness"? Did his physician document in the medical record that the medicine he was Rx'ing may cause drowsiness??

The fact that your client was on Oxycodone does not, in and of itself, absolve him of responsibility in the accident.

Doc, I'll talk about it to an extent. Nope, they tested his blood, with his consent, and his BAC was .000. He did, however, also have diazepam and nordezapam in his system, but he had a prescription for the valium from the same doctor and the state's toxicologist said there was nothing out of the ordinary mixing the two. And the levels found in his blood of the other two substances were also at theraputic levels, according to the state's own toxicologist.

The warning on the label was "drive with caution" -- he is a chronic user of these medications and had been on them for almost a year ... had gone to school, worked, driven virtually every day on the meds ...

(as for the official medical record, while I have his prescriptions, I have not been able to obtain his medical records)

Really, the state should drop the case, but because it is a victim case, they will not. But I guess that is the point. One can be accused and while many are guilty, some are not -- and for those guys and gals, society condems them well before the verdict is ever handed down ... and I guess I just think that is unfortunate.

                          Hey Doc,

Do you live in SC or did you pick him up from a bar near your home?

Only reason I ask is because I live near Columbia and have a condo in West Ashley.

                          Just curious.
