The No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers have reportedly suspended Heisman candidate Tyrann Mathieu and star running back Spencer Ware for this weekend's game against Auburn. The suspension reportedly concerns a failed drug test.

Oct 19, 2011 - Les Miles and the LSU Tigers have suspended running back Spencer Ware and defensive back Tyrann Mathieu for Saturday's game vs. Auburn, and possibly longer. This according to reports out of Baton Rouge early Wednesday afternoon. Les Miles will reportedly address the news at his regular scheduled press conference at 6:15 Wednesday night.
According to LSU's on-campus newspaper, the suspensions involve a failed drug test. And LSU beat writer Randy Rosetta tweeted that there could be another player involved in the suspensions, as well.
Either way, the damage is already done, as you'd be hard pressed to find two players more valuable to the number one college football team in the country than Ware, the team's starting running back, and Mathieu, a terror in the secondary who's actually turned into a darkhorse Heisman trophy candidate.
Particularly if the suspensions last past this weekend's home matchup vs. Auburn, it'd be a devastating blow for a team that already endured its fair share of controversy with Jordan Jefferson's suspension earlier this year.
For now, we'll wait on word from Miles, and LSU fans will keep their fingers crossed.

Ware wasn't likely to play the whole game anyway; Blue and Ford have almost as many carries. They will probably use Hilliard some; and also get the ball a few more times to Shepherd.

Mathieu is a playmaker, but again, there are guys behind him that can play. The starters weren't going to play the whole game anyway.

Make no mistake, LSU will still win the game. Auburn scores 26 points a game, give up 25.9 points a game, and can't throw. They scored 17 points on FL; and FL also had 3 turnovers... so don't go crazy jumping on Auburn..

Now if the team isn't intact for the rest of the season; well, that's another story..

I would worry more about who starts as QB for Auburn in a hostile environment than who is starting for the #1 team in the country. Auburn's defense is going to give up 30-45 points in this game.

Auburn sucks. They have no offense. I was worried that LSUs defense might score 23 and cover the spread. Now they might not score 23 maybe just 7. If there offense scores 24+ they will most certainly cover the spread still. Be careful of betting on a poor auburn team.

The guys is a great presence on the defense but he only had 1 tackle last week and that didn't change the outcome. We have 3 rb's that could start for Anybody. auborns defense is going to give up a ton of points and their offense is bad..
