Is it a done deal? Yahoo has Teixeira in tonight's Atl starting lineup.

With Chipper back on the DL and Timmy headed toward TJ surgery, it was time to raise the white flag in ATL this year.

Tex is a free agent at the end of the year. The Braves do not figure to be able to sign to a long term deal.

Trade him now for players. Let him walk at the end of the year for draft picks...Easy decision for the Braves.

Teixeira is young. Good trade for Angels. He will give them 6-8 good years. I have just placed a bet on Angels winning the World Series. This trade is 10 on a scale of 10 whereas the Nady/Marte trade is at 2 at best.

The Angels have won the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes.

First baseman Casey Kotchman and Class AA right-hander Stephen Marek are headed to Atlanta in exchange for the power-hitting first baseman.

The Diamondbacks had emerged as an early front-runner for Teixeira, but the Angels maintained steady interest. They were willing to acquire Teixeira only if they did not break up the core of their roster, which has produced the best record in the majors.

In trading Teixeira for Kotchman and Marek, the Braves will receive better value than the two premium draft picks they would have received if they simply lost Teixeira as a free agent.

Kotchman, who is batting .287 this season with a career-high 12 homers, will be under the Braves' control for three more seasons.

Marek, 2-6 with a 3.66 ERA in 34 relief appearances as a reliever at Class AA, eventually projects to be a member of the Braves' bullpen.

The Angels could attempt to keep Teixeira long-term, but those negotiations could be complicated by their need to reach a new deal with right fielder Vladimir Guerrero, who will be a free agent after next season.

If the Angels lose Teixeira to free agency, they could simply replace him with Kendry Morales, who currently is at Class AAA. They then would receive two premium draft picks as compensation if they offered Teixeira salary arbitration.

Teixeira, a switch-hitter who plays Gold Glove-caliber defense, will provide a major boost to an Angels offense that has revived in July.

He established himself as a premier hitter while with the Texas Rangers from 2003-07. He turned down a lucrative contract extension from Texas and was traded to the Braves in June 2007.

Teixeira has a lifetime batting average of .286 with 190 total home runs. His best season was in 2005 for the Rangers, when he established career highs in average (.301), home runs (43), RBIs (144), and hits (194) and was selected to his first All-Star team. He is hitting .283 with 20 home runs and 78 RBIs this season.

No reason the Angels don't get a deal done to re-sign him to a long term deal. Say hello to the World Series favorite from the AL.

It is pretty much done. They said Kotchman has been pulled from the field while going out to warmup for the Angels game.

While it is a nice pickup for the Angels, they will not be able to sign him to a long term deal until the off season. Teixeira is a Scott Boras client and he pretty much has all his players become a free agent. There is pretty much no chance of resigning Teixeira during the year. So there is a very good chance they gave away Kotchman for two months of Teixeira.

The Diamondbacks wanted Texieria, but the Braves were demanding Connor Jackson, and Arizona said no way.

Any chance of the Angels playing worse with the trade? Could this backfire? I mean they did have the best record in the bigs and were playing well of late.

As a braves fan, Kotchman is a decent potential talent but I dont think he will ever have near the power of Teixeira. Kotchman will be good for about .285 20HR and 90RBI in a full year at his peak probably. In other words the Braves got shafted. This is the beginning of the end. Gonna be another 10 years like the 80's ahead of us.

As for the Angels....Bad Vlad now has switch hitting Teixiera to back him up. Its gonna be tough to beat the Angels in a 4 game series. They are a toss up with Boston now for the WS.
