Gambling is the only thing that me and my dad have in common. I feel like gambling is a problem because of the public perception and because of that no one has showed the young gamblers to use it in moderation. My dad loves to gamble and when I told him my interest in it in high school he taught me how to be a responsible gambler. He would bet games with me and it was a father and son type of event that we still share.
Most people here probably started gambling by them selves or with friends but no one really showed them how to gamble. They have only experienced it with friends and beer. Bragging about how much they put on a game and how they picked a upset winner. It's more of a vice than a entertainment activity. It's like when we were younger and wanted to drink as much as we could every weekend and wanted to get even drunker the next. Now since I am older I maybe drink once a month and get drunk maybe once every two months.

Gambling needs to be treated like an entertainment and not a vice. It's like talking to your kids about sex and drinking. They are going to do them so tell them about condoms and that they can count on you to drive them home. Instead of getting pregnant or dieing in a car wreck. Telling some one not to do something is only going to spark their interest in doing it. I wasn't interested in drugs until the DARE program came to my school and I was like "I want to try some of that."

That's what I do, I bet very small and deposit very small each week. Play for fun, never gamble your life.
You deposit each week? And jjgold gives advice designed to be bad. You gotta learn the ropes here.

i've lost around 7500 in my gambling career (more like 8000 due to fees) mostly doing stupid all-in bets trying to chase back, so i can vouch for this thread

not like i felt it until recently though, all of a sudden im thinking back on what if i kept the money i stupidly threw away the last two months (probably around 2500). retrospect, eh?

In all honesty though people shouldn't gamble with money they cannot afford to lose. If gambling causes you to not be able to pay for the basic things one needs to survive you shouldn't gamble. The only people who make a living off gambling are the house and those employed by the house.

Im 27 and have had a successful past 7 years or so working for myself and the public I guess you could say. It was good money but was ruining my life and the life of others. After "retiring" I still delt with urges to do it myself and alcohol till I ended up in the hospital with massive internal bleeding from a motorcyle accident. My life has changed since that day, I cant say all urges to binge drink and mess with the bugger sugar have left me but they are controlled now. I been been gambling pretty steady now since the start of the nfl season and now within the past few weeks have added cfb and hockey. The urge to place bets are just as strong as the ones to drink and do drugs but maybe more cause the fact that its not physically killing me. I see it changing the way I act and my moods but at the same time it has kept me from the drugs and alcohol. I want to cut down on the gambling but weary about cutting it out of my life cause of the void it now fills. Obviously self control has been a issue with me my whole life, never found a way to control it and still searching. Any info would be cool
