Gambling is the only thing that me and my dad have in common. I feel like gambling is a problem because of the public perception and because of that no one has showed the young gamblers to use it in moderation. My dad loves to gamble and when I told him my interest in it in high school he taught me how to be a responsible gambler. He would bet games with me and it was a father and son type of event that we still share.
Most people here probably started gambling by them selves or with friends but no one really showed them how to gamble. They have only experienced it with friends and beer. Bragging about how much they put on a game and how they picked a upset winner. It's more of a vice than a entertainment activity. It's like when we were younger and wanted to drink as much as we could every weekend and wanted to get even drunker the next. Now since I am older I maybe drink once a month and get drunk maybe once every two months.
Gambling needs to be treated like an entertainment and not a vice. It's like talking to your kids about sex and drinking. They are going to do them so tell them about condoms and that they can count on you to drive them home. Instead of getting pregnant or dieing in a car wreck. Telling some one not to do something is only going to spark their interest in doing it. I wasn't interested in drugs until the DARE program came to my school and I was like "I want to try some of that."
