There would have to be rules to a true civil and (at least somewhat) inetlligent debate. Bread and moneyline would be a good match with the two well spoken and coming from different angle. And I think Dark Horse and LT Profits would be excellent debaters. I've had good discussions with both.

Thats a nice and innovative idea for SBR. Make a one on one forum for posters who have a disagreement, where everyone else can watch but not participate. Kinda like a heads up match in poker.

I see where this is heading.

Willie, we need a sponsor for the new semiannual SBR Beat the Prick Debate Contest.

Not to sound like a product placement post, but I think that's something the new MySBRforum will be well-suited for. Will be interesting to see how that site and the message board interact. Two posters can go at it pretty much all they want, and in many ways just become the 'admin' of their own board. As long as Corey B Trots and Jackie Childs want to discuss an issue, they can do it. If they're tired of each other, they can effectively ban the other one.

I would very much enjoy having a religion-free (from espousing or bashing) debate regarding anything sports-related ... it is a bit of a sickness, but I know one heck of a lot about sports since I enjoy them so much.

Baseball, basketball or football, to be specific ... without the petty insults, I'd enjoy a one-on-one debate.

Well that would count me out.

I am sure that is very disappointing to you, moneyline.

Why is it that these are the only types of threads you ever post in then? I hope you realize that you have a choice in which threads you can post in. There are plenty of sports related threads on this forum yet you never seem to be a part of any of them. No petty insults? I guess you'd have to relinquish your lead from the SBR petty insult leaderboard...

Actually, MF, I'm involved in a lot of sports threads ... most of them in the baseball forum. Matter of fact, virtually any Yankee thread has me in it ...

And Robyn, it'd be nice if any of the women here were able to post about sports. SG could, but she is the only one.

It is, after all, a sports forum, not a 'look at me' forum. But there is room for everyone, of course ...

He is a lawyer, MF. I have seen him in other threads (yes, I do read other parts of the board). Unfortunately for moneyline, nobody is willing to fight over who the better first baseman is, so he frequents the political and players talk threads. Also, he is a heat seeking missile when it comes to any thread in which one of the women posts. Not because he likes us, but rather he gets a rise out of blasting us "emotional" women.

Moneyline, I have participated in sports related threads...but it is always a fruitless effort. The only group that enjoys hearing what I have to say are the MMA guys. I like it here, so I don't need you or anyone else dictating which parts of the board I need to frequent.

Here is Moneyline's baseball "knowledge" in a nutshell:

                        1. Alex Rodriguez sucks and is a choker. He is an awful player who is below the standard of your average little leaguer.

                        2. Small sample sizes tell you everything you need to know. CC Sabathia went 2 for 3 last year at the plate? STUD.

                        3. Wins and batting average are excellent metrics. OPS, EqA, dERA and other sabermetric stats are new age garbage.

You got me Juan. Of course, you've never been able to explain what an adequate sample size would be when it comes to the playoffs ... I guess such a thing does not exist and coincidences like ARod going from MVP to worst hitter on the team since he has worn pinstripes every October just ... well ... happens ...

Robinson Cano isn't a 2nd half hitter, either. He needs to play at least 10 years for us to make that kind of rash determination.

And Richie Sexson doesn't hit lefties better than righties.

Wang doesn't pitch better in the regular season than he does in the playoffs.

I like you, Juan. You and your new age ideas are great. And I definitely believe you more than I believe my lying eyes ...

I can discuss sports, just not the gambling aspects of them.

Wanna talk about the sucky tires at the Brickyard this weekend? I fought to stay awake through that snoozefest.

As I've always told you, it's silly to evaluate players on their performance in the playoffs as they do not get enough plate appearances to give you an adequate sample size, even players who play in the playoffs almost every year.

Yep, you don't seem to understand that it's expected for a few players to be aberrant from the average based on probability distributions alone.

This is where you're wrong. Gambling isn't that tricky, actually showing a profit long term is. But I have confidence that you'd hold your own discussing the betting elements for the sports you like, ie a spot you think a team has value to cover the #.
