just checked their schedule and it looks doable. however it will be hard for a young team to adjust and go from the hunter to the hunted after the success of last season. i think it will come down to the final game of the year at nw. gl.

6.5 sounds about right, and I don't think I would be rushing to bet the over.

There are a couple thing going against you here.

1) Juice Williams is a very ordinary to below average quarterback. He made some improvements last year with his passing game, but still needs to do much better than he did last year. He is clearly a running QB (run first, pass second) but his rushing to take a hit this year without Mendenhall in the backfield. Mendenhal was a player that defesnes really zeroed in on last year, and JW won't have that luxury. He'll be the sole focus of the defense's he faces this year. It's tough to count on the Juice too much.....

2) Reshard Mendenhall is gone along with John (?) Leman the linebacker who was really good. Basically you have your two best players from offense and defense gone. I hope the recruiting is as good as everyone says it is if you want to cash this bet....

3) @Penn State, @Michigan, @Wisconsin, & @Northwestern. Have fun with that road schedule. 1-3 most likely and possibly 0-4 if NW is improved like a lot of people expect them to be.

4) Ron Zook still at the helm.


Basically, you will find out right away if this bet cashes. If they bet Missouri it will cash for you, if they lose to Missouri then it's a losing bet. At best, they are a 4-4 team in the conference. The game at WMU will be much more difficult than people expect as that will be a game played in Detroit's Ford Field.

Gun to my head, I say Illinois is probably 7-5 this year, but to be honest, anything below that would not be surprising at all.

So lets say they steal 1 game and knock one of the biggies Mich, OSU, Missouri, PennSt, wisky. And lets say they drop one to either Iowa,Minn, EI(no slouch here) or Indy.

As someone else mentioned it would come down to a road game at NW and the they would probably be a slight road favorite. Sounds like a fair line.

If its up to 7.5 I'd middle it without a second thought! There is very little chance they win 8. To do so they have to beat everyone they are favored against and one team as a dog. Looks like either 6 or 7.
