The WNBA is a joke ...
How Rick Mahorn could be suspended for 2 games coming on to the court, trying to break up a fight and then, taking a punch to the back of the neck by one of the "ladies" and another punch to the face by a second "lady" is beyond me ...

I guess the rules in the ladies's league are as follows. If you are a man, stay off the court ... and if you come on the court, expect for people for swing at you. If you try to break up the fight, you will be suspended.

What a joke of a league. As if it needed any other reasons to be though of as one.

Can't wait for this league to be gone for good, probably in a few years.

I don't believe for one minute that he was trying to play peacemaker.

There were like 3 of his players on top of Candace yet he goes and blocks Leslie, who was actually playing peacemaker, from coming to her aid. Then he pushes her to the ground. He deserved more than a 2 game suspension.

Regardless, if NBA can suspend Amare a game for leaving the bench during a fight, then Mahorn deserved much more for putting his hands on a player.

Pushing her to the ground? Yep, you are right. He didn't want to play peacemaker. He wanted a piece of her. And when he reached out afterwards to help her up, he probably just wanted her on her feet so he could push her down again.

And the "ladies" who threw actual punches at Mahorn. I guess they deserve medals.

If Mahorn wanted to hurt any of the ladies, they'd be in the hospital right now.

          What a joke.

(explain to me again how a person breaks up a fight without putting his hands on any of them -- this should be an interesting explanation)

Look at the video again, he didn't reach out to help her up. If he were, he would've walked over to her and bent over with his hand extended. Not just stand there 10 feet away from where she fell, trying to act like he had no hand in her falling.

He deserved to get whacked. Too bad it was a girl and not a 7'2" 350lb Shaq because he would've surely felt that. Anyone that places himself in the middle of a mele will get hit, especially when you push someone down instead of being a peacemaker.

Like I said, if he truly was a peacemaker, he would've pulled some of his players off of Candace and that would've ended it. Instead, he didn't go anywhere near where all the action was, he goes after Leslie who wasn't doing anything but trying to peacekeep.

He should be fired as far as I'm concerned.

Being fired would be a blessing. Having to watch that sub-standard play night after night must be wearing on his sanity.

(oh, and he didn't have time to bend over to help her -- he was too busy getting sucker-punched from behind)

But u said he was trying to help her up. Even though he was 10 feet away from where she fell and he didn't even bend over and extend his arm.

And he wasn't punched. He was pushed once and hit with the bottom of her fist once which is exactly how pro wrestlers "punch" so their opponents don't get hurt. Yet he didn't even go over to try to help her up. Or pull any of his players off of Candace, which is what a peacemaker would've done. Not go confront the other team's player and block them and push them further escalating the violence. But that's to be expected from someone like Mahorn.

Mahorn didn't push shit. If he pushed her, she would have broken her hip. He is huge, plus she tripped over her own feet. Unreal.

Increased Ratings, Attendance, Record Web Traffic Highlight WNBA’s 12th Season
                          Posted Jul 2 2008 5:30PM

NEW YORK, July 2, 2008 – Double-digit growth in TV ratings, record traffic to WNBA.com, increased attendance and sellouts set the tone as the WNBA nears the halfway point of its 12th season.

WNBA ratings are up 20 percent on ABC (0.6 rating vs. 0.5) and 22 percent on ESPN2 (0.22 vs. 0.18), while average attendance through June has increased 2.44 percent vs. a comparable period in 2007 (7,519 vs. 7,340). Highlighting the attendance growth are 18 sellouts registered to date – already surpassing the 17 total sellouts for the entire 2007 regular season.

In June, WNBA.com set an all-time record for monthly site visits with nearly 3 million, a 35 percent increase over June 2007. WNBA.com also experienced a single-day video record of nearly 95,000 streams on June 23, one day after Candace Parker became the second player in WNBA history to dunk in a regular season game.

WNBA merchandise sales at the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue and at WNBAStore.com increased 34 percent versus the same time last year, led by sales of Parker jerseys.

The strong WNBA fan response is fueled by outstanding performances on the court as All-Stars take their game to new heights and the most heralded draft class in league history has delivered.

A pair of perennial All-Stars reached milestones with Lisa Leslie becoming the first WNBA player to record 3,000 career rebounds and Tina Thompson joining Leslie as the second player to reach the 5,000 career points plateau. Rookie sensations Parker and Candice Wiggins (“Ace” and “Ice”) have flourished – with Parker ranking among the league leaders in points, rebounds, blocks, assists and steals per game and Wiggins leading all rookie scorers – while first-round picks Alexis Hornbuckle and Nicky Anosike are pacing the league in steals per game.

Later this month, the New York Liberty host a historic event – The Liberty Outdoor Classic – the first-ever regular season professional basketball game to be held outdoors. The July 19 game against the Indiana Fever will be held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, NY, at 7:30 p.m. and televised on MSG.

Yep, that's great. She ignores what is seen on video, instead saying she saw it live. I always trust what I see live more than what I can see, over and over again, on video.

Didn't you know? That's why there is no instant replay in any sports.

What would be the point of replaying the video over and over when you CAN'T see it??

So what would be the next best thing: an EYEWITNESS who SAW it LIVE and commented on it immediately.

Again, why was he going after Leslie who wasn't doing anything, when all his players were on top of Candace? That would be like you or me walking past the combatants and punching a bystander in the face and claiming that we were trying to break up the fight.

And I guess all peacekeepers are ejected and suspended for doing absolutely nothing. Not to mention all her teammates wanting to rip his sack off because he didn't do anything.

No, all guys who have the audacity to touch a woman are ejected and suspended (in the WNBA) if one of the women falls down. And all of the women wanted to "rip his sack off" because they are pussies who believe any man that touches a woman should be drawn and quartered.

This reminds me of Danica Patrick going nose to nose with male drivers and threatening them. If one of them laid a finger on her, it would be a national disaster.

                                    It is a joke.

Other coaches were touching and grabbing the players..... but why weren't they ejected and suspended too?

Maybe her teammates were upset because they saw him push her to the floor just as the commentator said she witnessed with her own eyes?

Or maybe the graceful Lisa Leslie, losing her balance with minimal contact, caused her teammates to get into an uproar. After all, the big, bad man touched her and she fell. Surely, that deserves a sucker punch to the back of the neck, a two handed shot to his torso and a two game suspension.

He really should be fired. Lisa was out there, minding her own business, doing nothing. She was actually just walking back to the bench, I guess ... before the big, bad Mahorn stopped her from getting there ...

You keep avoiding the question..... why was Mahorn GOING AFTER LESLIE AT ALL? The fight was 15 feet behind him where several of his players were going after Candace.

Mahorn pushed her, all the eye witnesses there said so. That's why he was the only non player ejected and suspended. Or maybe you know more than the people that were there and witnessed the whole thing.... from watching videos over and over again on Youtube, even though none of them show much.

And I didn't have to see it on YouTube, buddy. Saw it on Mike and Mike over and over again -- the Mahorn/Leslie scene in all its glory. Both ofn them also believe Mahorn did nothing wrong and shouldn't be suspended.

The announcer clearly said with 100% certainty that she saw Mahorn push her. Or maybe she secretly works for the Sparks and was lying.

The push happened in front of the Sparks bench. All the Detroit players were busy going after Candace, so how would they see when Mahorn's back was to them.

Yeah, Mike & Mike are the authority on examining video evidence..... when all the eyewitnesses agree that they saw him push her. I don't know about you, but I'll take the words of people that were present and witnessesed it with their own eyes than those that watch it on video.

The video showed he did nothing wrong. But, you are right. I'll take an overreacting female announcer and all of the players and coaches on the wronged team's word for it any day of the week.

(after all, somebody probably doctored the video -- conspiracy afoot)

Anyone who watches the video sees he did not push her.

"Who am I going to believe, the announcer, the LA players, or my own lying eyes?"

If the video absolves him of any wrongdoing, why did the commish suspend him??? I guess he's on the Sparks payroll too.

Dagger, if you don't know the answer to that question, you are obviously very young and don't understand the politics of sports. Keep your innocence as long as you can. It is an endearing quality.

i didn't get todays penalties handed out.

the Shock had 4 players all get 1 day for "leaving the bench area during an altercation"
the Sparks had 3 players only get 1 day for "throwing a punch during an altercation"
i would think just leaving the bench area wouldn't be as serious as throwing a punch.
