Mired in an 0-4 start, the struggling Winnipeg Blue Bombers will go with quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie as their starter when the defending East Division champions host the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday night.
Dinwiddie will be making his second career CFL start, with his only other appearance in last year's Grey Cup.
The 27-year-old started last year's Grey Cup final after Kevin Glenn broke his arm in the East Division final. Dinwiddie threw one touchdown and three interceptions in a 23-19 loss to Saskatchewan. Including the playoffs, The Boise State product has completed 67 of 118 passes for two touchdowns and eight interceptions since joining the Bombers in 2006. Dinwiddie will once again replace Glenn, who has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 2-8 in four games this season. The change at quarterback is one of many moves the Blue Bombers will make as they prepare to take on Calgary.
On the injury front, linebacker Barrin Simpson will be placed on the 9-game IR list and is likely out for the year. He will have surgery to repair the torn pectoral muscle he suffered in the game against B.C and may be back for playoffs. Joe Lobedahn takes his spot as the middle linebacker.
Defensive back Ike Charlton and lineman Kyle Koch are also questionable. Slotback Milt Stegall, who is still recovering from off-season knee surgery, is doubtful.
Bombers head coach Doug Berry plans to play defensive back Kelly Malveaux as outside linebacker, with Joe Lobendahn replacing Simpson down the middle and Matt O'Meara playing at right guard.

Me and accu were talking in my thread in the NFL section, but any thoughts on so called Power Rankings for the CFL? I'd be interested in your take.

It's funny, and also kind of sad, how the best 4 teams in the league probably all come from the West. For what it's worth, here's what my rankings look like heading into week 5.

1. Calgary
2. Saskatchewan
3. BC
4. Edmonton(Very close to BC)
5. Montreal
6. Hamilton
7. Toronto
8. Winnipeg.

The west is clearly best, and there was some money to be made exploiting this fact early on in the season. I believe the lines this week are now adjusting themselves to eliminate the clear value that was present earlier in the season. In fact in some cases maybe an overcorrection has taken place this week.

Exactly the reason I'm only playing this as a regular play despite feeling this is a complete mismatch.

I'm just curious about all the love for BC. They've lost to both other West powerhouses(one of them at home) and have taken care of Winnipeg, as they probably should have. It's a little too early to put much on point differential IMO, but their yards/play is below that of Calgary and Saskatchewan. The defense probably has more talent than Calgary, but I don't think it's enough to overcome the offensive difference.

I really expect them to have a lot of trouble with Montreal this weekend. The Alouettes have come out of the gate very strong despite poor preseason projections.

dw Lions have the best front 4 in the league, and they'll take care of AC this weekend.... Geroy Simon is about to break Dirty 30 Jim Young's all time Lion pass receiving record of...I dunno...35 years. A few QB problems synching up with the receivers in the first two weeks, but watch them go now, kickin' a$$ and takin' names...Bank it.
