    A Baseball Question
When the third out is recorded why does the guy who has the ball in his glove receive a ball from the dugout(giving him two) to throw into the crowd?

I think you usually only see this when the first basemen catches the 3rd out and has the ball in his glove. I guess its just a routine and the ball he throws into the crowd might have scuff marks on it or something so they just get rid of it and the ball that is thrown to him is used for warming up the infield when they go out on the field.

You're right, it was Adrian Gonzalez.

Jeez. Didn't any of you play baseball? The balls are given to either the first baseman and an outfielder for fielding warmups between innings...

I get it, so why not just discard it, why does he need another thrown to him or is it the secondone he's discarding?

The ball in play is the one he tosses to the crowd. They use balls that aren't scuffed while in play since it gives pitchers unfair advantages. That's why when a pitch hits the ground before it reaches the catcher, the catcher hands the ball back to the home plate ump and gets a new one.
