Don't ever tell anyone you bet on sports. You will always be labeled a degenerate gambler. Even if you win, you get the textbook "but how much did you lose?"

Just create a business, a fake site, say your a financial consultant and investor. People ask tell them you spend enough time at work and you don't want to talk about profit margins and stuff, they'll see its boring and you move on. This wont work, trust me. It's not a 9-5 hjob. Games are at night and on the weekends, and on holidays. Financial markets are closed when professional gamblers are "working."
