Friday Night Lights-King of the Hill, anyone play HS football in Texas?Bigtime stuff!
I thought it was bad in Minnesota for hockey parents to spend all their spare time and money on a kids hockey career by driving them to practice at 3am ,spending mega $$$$$for equipment and summer hockey camps and moving the family 200 miles away pulling up roots to get to a town with a thriving hockey program.

The more I hear about Texas high school football, the more it creeps me out how many people live and die by the games. These people are out of their friggin minds down there when it comes to fielding a competiteve high school team.Recruiting players, mom's trying to kill cheerleaders.etc.You get these fat old bald Al Bundy guys that are 60 years old that played at the school and they assemble in masses on the sidelines yelling plays and calling the coach on the phone after the game bitching them out.

Has anyone here ever played high school football in Texas and is it as bad as it's made out to be in the media?Even the small backwash panhandle teams seem to have fanatics involved that are bonkers.

In New Mexico, it's a little crazy. Let me explain. I live in the 'big city' of Albuquerque, which is the only city with a six digit, or higher population. Coaches in this city get about $2000 to coach, on top of their salaries. A small town like Carlsbad, located within an hour of the Texas border, that coach gets paid around $30,000, on top of his teacher salary.
Recent local news radio has been discussing that some of our small-town schools have conducted some good-conduct policies, just like in the NFL. Yeah, kinda strange how the NFL has been a model for these small towns. Football is, definitely king, out here in New Mexico. I believe that you're not gonna hear about this state's nuerotic football behavior, because it is a small, rural, and uninteresting state.
To answer your question about Texas, my best guest is most definitely, yes. Maybe the larger cities like Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio may not have the fanatacism, but their is much more distractions and things to do, in the big city.

i know high school football is big in Texas, but alot of other places take it seriously also. Florida comes to mind, because just about all major colleges have someone from Florida on their roster. I know UofL has been recruiting Florida players ever since Schellenberger was there.

high school football ain't to big here in Ky., unless your teams name is Trinity or St.X, those 2 catholic schools dominate, there are some other public schools that are consistently good also, but those 2 pretty much dominate the top class, but Ky. still gets beat every year by Tennessee in the All-Star game.

I played in Pecos when the Eagles were Single A Div and now they are AA. Population about 9,000 and there will be 2,000 and more people going to some of the big rival games away like Monahans and Kermit. The 6 man division is a lot of fun to watch when I am stuck in Ft. Worth for the weekend.
