    Any golfers here?
Hey guys learning to play golf for about a month now. Ive gotten much better in just this short time. Im pretty good with the irons and starting to get my drives nice and straight. My biggest problem now is I cant seem to hit my 3 or 5 wood for the life of me. I know im swinging to high and topping it most the time, but I just cant seem to hit it right.

Any tips from the golfing posters?

this is something that cant be explained by words alone.
you need personal lessons i can tell by what you wrote above on the coming up on the swing part.
most pros will give you some tips but not great ones,by any means so dont waste your money

you need to get lessons from a good golfer that you might be freinds with, and can spend time helping you out on all aspects of the game

i've tried about 5-6 times in the early 90's with friends, i sucked, all my drives, that's when i didn't miss it first, off the tee were only about 15-20 ft off the ground and liners slicing out of bounds, and my approach and chips were horrible as well, but i good putt pretty good, i guess all that time as a youth playing putt putt golf payed off.

Ive never played golf with anyone here but I would be willing to bet that Im probably one of the better, if not the best golfer that posts here. If you are in the Texas, Arkansas or Louisiana area, I would be more than happy to meet up with you at a range and work with you on your swing. Ive got a course in AR that I teach at a little.

If you have the same make of driver, 3 and 5 woods, then you're swinging differently for each. If you have different makes, try making them the same.

If you swing all the clubs the same, you'll have fewer problems.

different makes of clubs doesnt matter. my Driver is Mizuno, 3W - Titleist, 5W - Mizuno and irons - bridgestone. I wouldnt have it any other way.

I have been thinking about buying a set of clubs, and hitting the greens with some friends. But yet to do it.

I flew out and hung out with Kellen a month ago and we went golfing. I am not good at all but after we played he made plans to play with some people the next day. I went with him before my plane left. The guys he played with were real good and Kellen took them to the cleaners.. Very good golfer he is!

hippo golf makes great hybrids i mean real ones every club even the pw is like hitting a 3 wood, look and feel

the xxl ones with adilla graphite would be the way to go and the first step in correcting problem cause their great clubs..but as anything you still have to use them properly for them to produce for you

I would recommend spending a little more. You really want to play with some quality clubs, it makes a big difference and will make the game more fun for you. You can get into a decent set for around 400 or so.

Rockbottomgolf.com is a good place to pick up a set cheap. You can even go to your local golf shop and get one of these box sets for about 299. I recommend that or go to a play it again sports and pick up a nice used set.

As long as the irons are perimeter weighted and have steel shafts and the woods have graphite shafts, $100 should be fine for a set of clubs (if you're lucky enough to get them that cheap......I'm assuming they're used).

I still have my Callaway X-12's from back in the day (2001).

I started with an old set of Titleist blades. If you can learn on blades and start to hit them well, you can hit anything. I really think that helped to progress my game faster than if I started with a beginners set.

True. If you can smoke Mizuno blades, a perimeter weighted club will almost feel like you are cheating.

Kellen your absolutely right about playing with someone who is patient and willing to give pointers. My father-in-law is a very good golfer and the one i've been going with mostly. The little tips he has given me have helped alot, but like I said its weird how im struggling so much with the woods. Ive seen major improvements with all other clubs. BTW Kellen im in San Antonio if your ever in this neck of the woods would love to play. To all on here like onlooker who is thinking about getting into it, you will love it. I hated playing at first but now after only a month cant get enough.

Pete, I'll probably be spending quite a bit of time in San Antonio in the coming months. We are purchasing some property there and I'll be spending some time there getting things going. I'll let you know.

My grandpa taught me this trick when I was a youngin' just learning the game. I as well, couldnt hit my 3wood to save my life (from the fairway) and as a result, i was selling myself short on holes that demanded a decent wood play... Practice keeping your head down (don't move it down, or you will hit it 'fat'). Concentrate keeping your head level at address, so you cant swing behind or over it. Then.. look at a mark in the grass in front of the ball.. (just about a half inch)... Not even looking at the ball. Take a swing! When my grandpa told me that, i havn't gone back, and i smoke my 3 wood. It sounds crazy, but it worked for me when I had the same issue of not getting down on it...
