State of online gambling now and for the forseeable future
Just have a question here for you guys.Maybe someone would know the answer.
I have an actual job that I took a leave from to basically gamble full time.I have gambled for many years but the last two years has been the only time that I have done it full time. I like to keep my job on the backburner because I always have that thought that something is going to come along and throw a wrench in this whole online gaming industry, like what happened in the States. If that happened, I would rather have a job to go back to then to start from scratch looking for a new one. The problem that I have right now though is that I have pretty much come to the end of the line as far as keeping my other job on the backburner. In a couple months I have to go back to my old job or else I will have to quit it. I have used up the maximum leave that I could. If I knew for certain that the online gaming industry would be like this in 5 or 10 years then I would quit my job for sure. However the pessimist inside of me always fears that something is going to happen to the online gambling industry and I will be stuck with no job and unable to gamble. What would you guys do if you were in my situations? Do you guys have any feelings about how the industry will be for the next 5-10 years?
Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks

P.S - Keep in mind I live in Canada right now.

I would not worry about not having the ability to do this anymore. There is simply to much money for it to simply go away no matter what the political situation. My only worry would be staying one step ahead of the sharper lines through the years. If you have observed yourself in this two years and think you got the right stuff to stay in the game, the right mind set of dedication and decipline, it would be a no brainer.

This is the best time to be an online gambler imo: huge numbers of low juice books, near instant and free withdrawals via ewallets, huge liquidity on exchanges, large stakes available even on totally obscure leagues, so much competition for reload bonuses etc. Compared to 2001, when I used sports gambling to pay my way through university, it's vastly better for punters now.

For example, I used to follow the Finnish league in 2001 (simply cos prices were often way off as nobody knew anything about it). Taking the best price available from all books, the overall was usually around a 105% market. Now looking at this week's matches, Inter-Mypa is 100.9%, and there's a moderate arb on KTP-Turku. So much easier to find value, and that's even before you combine it with asian handicap betting.

Of course, for American punters your delightful government seems to have fubar'ed everything up.....

I can't see anything getting in your way. People like to gamble, and more are doing it every day. No one is going to be able to step in and stop that.

I guess if I was more aware of how the bill in the USA worked I would be more at ease about the situation. Basically the bill blocked most of the processing companies from making transactions with the online books correct? So you can still use certain methods but the deposit and withdrawl times are very slow??

Better or worse? Probably stays about the same. I would never give up a good real job to gamble. Thats playing a bad number imho.

Well I guess I should expand on my job a bit. I actually don' really like my job at all thats why I took some time off to see if I could gamble full time. The only thing I really like is the flexibility to take leave and still have my position when I choose to go back. Ideally I guess what I would like would be to gamble full time while being on leave from this job and if anything does happen which makes gambling online harder to do,I would like the ability to just be able to go back to my job but I don't think that will be possible anymore. I guess basically the only thing my job is good for is that its a safety net if this gambling thing doesn't pan out.

You really didn't expand on your job at all...I'd keep my job and gamble part time ; Unless I'm set up for life.I love sports betting and if you're smart you can profit but you won't win all the time so...
BTW how did you choose your avatar ?

If you're good at all the math, sports betting pays better than any normal job. I was (am still am) a damn good lawyer, and gave it up to pursue this.

I was an accountant at my job so I guess I am fairly good with numbers.I don't have any doubts that I could gamble and make a living, only doubts I have had are whether or not I would be able to legally

Not really sure why I chose this avatar.Just needed to find something quick to put on here and it involves hockey and has blood so sounded good

If you are worried at all about the online industry then this is the best answer, move to Vegas. As for online betting in the states, well there is the Barney Frank bill gathering support that would regulate the industry. The resent bill which affected banks from processing gambling related items is being fazed out and soon should be removed or replaced with a regulatory Bill. Keep in mind personal online gambling is not really addressed in US law, however many states do have laws either against it or for it. For example: Gambling online in Washington State is a felon, however in Texas, if it done in the privacy of your own home, it is legal.

So, as to the future, the USA is moving toward online regulation and if that never does come, then it will be left in the individual state's hands...
