    Syd Barrett
A little look in the history of Pink Floyd. I would have posted this on the Pink Floyd thread, but it looks like it is getting messed up with trying to put a youtube vid in it. Anyway, the Floyd use to have a singer by the name of Syd Barrett. He was Floyd. Without him, there would be no Floyd today. The songs Shine on you crazy diamond, Comfortablly numb, wish you were here, and others are written about or because of him. The character in Another Brick in the wall is based on him. He inspired people like David Bowie and the Beatles when they would go watch Syd play live. The downfall: Drugs. He was taking so much, his mind snapped. He had to leave Floyd. For most of the rest of his days, he had to live at his parents house. He couldnt function in society.

To give you an example how bad he was: When he was still with Floyd, they were flown over to Cali to record. Down the hall in the recording studio, the Doors were recording. As chance would have it, Jim Morrison bumped into Syd one day and after their conversation, Jim Morrison told others that "That guy, Syd Barrett is really out there." lol. This from Morrison.

You wanna learn Floyd, you gotta learn about this man:

I think most Floyd songs were written about him and his mental illness.

Arnold Layne, Bike and See Emily Play are among my favorite Floyd tracks.

I agree. He was a big inspiration to alot of people, but was never turned into an icon like Hendrix, Joplin, or Morrison. I guess because he didnt die til he was 60...well physically anyway.
