It is an absolute must if you plan on being friends with someone for long. I've had a few friends who don't drink, so I've never had the opportunity to ever get drunk with them. All of them ended up being A-holes and I had to wait for a while before I saw through it.

I don't agree with that , I think most people change under the influence and what you see is different from what that person really is..When drunk you might see or discover some things about them that you normally would not but that doesn't mean your seeing the real THEM...I don't believe that..

Honestly, I don't think it is a must. I have some real good friends who are assholes when they are drunk, but good guys when they are not.
