Even benign brain tumors are space occupying lesions. The skull, of course, limits how much occupying can be done by the cancer. Afterr a point, the cancer just invades/overgrows/replaces normal brain tissue.

Lee Atwater, the Republican dirty-tricks opperative, had a "benign" brain tumor. He was dead in less than two years.
