True about Memorial Day, that is the one exception as far as honoring tragedy, but that is one day designated for millions of soldiers who died collectively over 200 years defending our nation. It doesnt recognize one specific event or one specific group of people.

As far as MLK day, it is celebrated on his birthday, not the day he died. The fact he was assassinated is irrelevant. He doesnt have a holiday because he was assassinated, otherwise JFK would have a holiday as well. He has a holiday because politicians felt pressure to designate a holiday to recognize the african-american community and it's struggles over the years. It's all political.

The only reason they have holidays is to get people out there to spend money and stimulate the economy. How many people would buy stuff for their mothers in May if there was no Mother's Day. Would anyone take their girlfriend out for a nice dinner and buy chocolates and candy if there were no Valentine's Day? We are pretty much sheep jumping through the hoops that the people, that made these holidays, put up for us.

then the people that lost loved ones with the oklahoma city bombing will be offended they dont get a holiday..also people that were affected by pearl harbor will get offended..no we shouldnt. we should always remember the tragic events in our lives and learn from it, shouldnt take one certain day to remind us and tell us how we should feel. same shit with mother's or father's day..it shouldnt just be one day where you show your appreciation for your parents if you truly love them.

National holidays are bad for the economy. Look at Greece and Italy. They have 30 national holidays or more and they are close to bankruptcy because no one is working on National holidays.

I think some people have confused the emaning of a holiday. It is to celebrate something good. Then they had memorial typse days but people started getting off of work so they associated that with a good thing and a holiday was born from it. If you memorialize horrid terrorist attack with a holiday you are almost paying homage to those sick F's that crashed those planes into those buildings and giving them power. F that. Let 9-11 rest.
