I probably mail 5-10 letters a year now, that's it. I have no clue why anyone would mail more than that. Bitchin about something that you're going to spend 5-10 bucks a year on is fuckin retarded.

This fuckin 6 days a week and cheap stamps whilst paying their employees unbelievable amounts of money is absurd and there should be no bailout without massive changes, lets face it new technology has all but eliminated the need for the postal service anyway, only mail I get anymore is bills, coupons and junk mail, all of which could be emailed to me instantly for free.

They should also force people like you to go through high school twice if they have shown to society they have failed the first time around.

Millions of people in this country don't have this "technology you speak of" i.e. Internet. What are these folks supposed to do? Should they be content with mail twice a week, and 1 dollar stamps.

82 percent of all US households have internet access, those 18 percent that don't more than likely don't have to go far to get online (library, whatever)

when I briefly worked as an office manager I sent so much USPS I couldn't believe it. Anything small and not time urgent it was a no-brainer. Never had anything "lost in the mail" either. Businesses use the post office a LOT.

The post office is employing alot of people that cannot do anything but postal work. If these people are fired , they will do nothing. Raise postal rates , cut pay, consolidate where feasible, cut Saturday delivery and remove the workers through attrition. The post office still has value and should not be eliminated.

That's fine that you feel that way, however your experiences in that particular office doesnt change the fact there's been an overall 22% drop in the amount of regular mail in the last 5 years alone and they expect that trend to repeat in the next 5 years. Keeping up the same 6 day service that was designed when all mail was physically sent is ridiculous. Your business would have to make due with a dollar a stamp, sorry, but they are using an antiquated system that the average person doesnt need/use anymore.

I could write you a letter, drive to the post office, buy a stamp and mail it and hope that it reaches you in 5 days OR I could type you a letter and click send and know it reached you instantly....hmmm what to do what to do

What do they have like only 2 fingers so they can only pickup letters or somehow or are they just genetically predisposed to delivering mail, what a weird thing to say...only postal work. Like if you turned them into pizza delivery drivers they would just drive in circles unable to deliver pizzas instead of letters, just a strange comment. Im not sure if you're joking or being serious but it was funny either way.

But anyway the USPS is just another victim of new technology, many ppl will of course lose their jobs as a more efficient means of communication is available. That's life! When automated switchboards were invented Im sure tons of ppl that worked the switchboards for phones got fired but this is what happens when technology improves something, the old way gets eliminated along with the old jobs

Um... the biggest problem is quite obvious... urban/suburban areas are subsidizing the rural areas. There is no reason Podunk, ND should be receiving mail deliveries 6 days per week. Now tbh, I don't really see any point for the postal service to remain in service. Ofc if this was a private company they would currently be going through a reorganization via bankruptcy and would end up leaner and perhaps reasonably close to the black. That would also involve mass layoffs and significant cuts to benefits.

Broke how did you come up with the figures of $1 per stamp and delivery 2 days per week? Do you care to share your in depth financial analysis that brought you to this specific conclusion? It sounds like you really did your homework on this one.

Obviously the postal service needs an overhaul. Like any government run agency/dept it lacks leadership, direction, and is slow to grasp and then embrace technological advances. The entire US government and it's agencies, especially the USPS, are a dinosaur and are always two steps behind. But your "idea" is hardly thought out or backed up with any actual statistics or financial analysis.

I'll counter your "idea" with an one that actually makes sense. You know what UPS, FEDEX, DHL, etc. (delivery companies that actually MAKE money) have in common? They have their own planes. The USPS does not. Instead, they prefer to contract mail delivery to commercial airlines. The going rates of these contracts make it impossible to turn a profit. How they operate is the equivelant of me renting a car everyday of my life instead of buying my own. At the end of the month I spent $1200 in rental fees on a car I dont own, rather than $400 on a car I do. If they owned their own planes, like every one of their competitors, the savings over the long haul would be enormous and actually make them profitable.

Obviously there are many other things in the USPS operation that would need to be restructured. They are involved in needless waste in many other areas. But this is just one part of restructing that would help return to profitablility.

ehp your retarded attempts at sarcasm are only masking your intense jealousy towards the obvious well thought out genius level logic of my plan

Also your idea of buying their own planes to solve their financial problems is well thought out as well

Unfortunately your retarded attempt at sarcasm and near turnip level intelligent solution to the USPS financial woes dont address their real problem

LABOR! Their labor costs, by delivering mail 6 days a week and ridiculously overpaying their staff, are 80% of their costs! Whilst FedEx and UPS labor costs are only around 35% of their total costs. A mail schedule cut by a 1/3 and a slashed workforce with pay/benefit cuts would drastically lower labor costs in a business thats already almost obsolete as it is, the amount to which they should raise the price of stamps was just a nice round figure for me to a buck. The truth is whether they raise it 10 cents or 50 cents doesnt really matter bc the only reason to physically mail something nowadays is bc you HAVE to mail it for a physical copy so whether it costs you 50 cents or a dollar for the stamp is irrelevant as you have no choice anyway. Of course there has to be a reasonable limit to the price raise but its unlikely an extra quarter a stamp is going to make any difference to your decision to mail the letter or not.
