Elton Brand agrees to go to the 76ers

Elton Brand, who opted out of his contract with the Clippers, could become a teammate of center Andris Biedrins with the Golden State Warriors, although Biedrins is also a free agent.
The verbal, five-year deal is believed to be in the $80-million range. Philadelphia was the latest team to join the bidding frenzy for Brand, who opted out of his contract with the Clippers last week.

Elton Brand has reached a verbal agreement to sign a multiyear contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to an NBA source who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on player movements.

The deal is believed to be in the $80-million range and expected to span five years.

Brand reportedly spurns L.A. and takes five-year deal with 76ers for about $82 million, while Maggette agrees to go to Warriors for about $50 million.

Good get for Philadelphia. Should make them competitive in the East assuming Brand is healthy.

Something tells me Elton Brand won't be getting an X-mas card from Baron Davis this year.

i won't believe this til it's a done deal. one of the reasons baron came down to l.a. was to play with elton, they would be a great inside outside threat

Whoever Arenas has for an agent, that's who I want. His deal makes these guys look like bench players and his knee is repaired too.

i have no idea how arenas's agent was able to get that kind of a deal. he hasn't even led his team to a first-round playoff victory and he gets all that cash. great scorer, and that's it, not a difference maker by any stretch other than putting up some offensive pts, doesnt translate into playoff success

sixers are going to be a force in the east if he can stay healthy. miller iguodala & brand are a pretty nice big 3. pretty solid bench as well with jason smith, lou williams & co.
